Getting ready to buy one for my 2007 2500 5. 9L. Anyone in the Hampton Roads Virginia area have any experience installing one? I could use some help.

Thanks,

Tom

Pull the inner fender on the passenger side... . its 6 of 8 sheet metal screws... . won't take but 2 - 3 minutes and makes it a lot easier...

Make sure you tighten the clamp between the turbo and brake correctly check the back side with your fingers... and re-tighten in 250 miles... . and than don't worry about it... .

Hope this helps. .

I got your PM in response to my inquiry. I will be calling Monday. I would just feel more comfortable having someone around who has done it before.

I am not very comfortable having to attach the 2 wires to the ECM. Reading the instructions they talk about removing the sealing plug and not pushing it in and if you do or do not get a good connection then you have to take the ECM connector apart. I can fix most things but if I screw up the ECM then a mistake there could ruin my day.

nineback -- installation is a piece of cake, did mine in an evening. As jelag said, pull the wheel liner, you can then get at the parts. The hardest part I had was getting the exhaust pipe backup and aligned with the exhaust brake, ended up using a block of wood and a bottle jack to get in it place. The part about the ecm plug is no problem, just remove the connector with an allen wrench, use a paper clip to push the sealing plug out and insert the wire. I finding a good key on power source, check out the Jacob brake web site and pick up the wire they use on their installation. Made it a whole lot easier. Also scope out a place for your air tank. I attached mine to one of the brackets on my nerf bar steps as I didn't want to drill the frame.

I will say, and I am confident everyone else here that has done the install of the Pacbrake will also say, it is a simple install, just follow the instructions which by the way are good. I did my install after work one evening

P. S. be sure to get the shifter switch

I had to disconnect the batteries and remove the ECM connector. No problem. I used a double fuse thing from Autozone. It allows using an existing minifuse for switched power with no splicing. The plastic cover will need two minutes with the Dremel for the wire.

I just used some needle nose pliers to pull the seals out and then used the same pliers to install the ecm pins for the harness. It was simple to do. I removed both inner fender liners to get at the elbow and the ecm. Made life much easier.

I wanted to thank everyone for the help. I installed my PacBrake last night. It wasn't too difficult but getting the old coupling off the turbo and the PacBrake installed took a little effort. Other than that things were fairly simple just took time. I did have to remove the connector from the ECM to get the plugs out of the connector.

I was surprised at how loud the brake is when turned on. In the cab you certainly know it is on. It does sound like the big rigs when they have their Jake brakes on but probably not as loud. I was just surprised that it is so noticeable inside the cab.

The PacBrake certainly seems to provide plenty of braking power. I have yet to tow with it but just the drive after putting it on you can tell it is working. It really slows down the truck when you let off the accelerator. It also changes the shift points as it will automatically downshift the transmission to maintain maximum braking. I also noticed that the truck will not up shift around town into overdrive with the brake own until around 50 mph again to maintain maximum braking power. I am not sure I like this for around town as it keeps the rpms up a little.
