I am finishing up the install of a Pacbrake PRXB on my 2000 CTD. The instructions say to trim insulation so there is none closer than 6" from any part of the brake or exhaust. That seems like there would be heat transfer into the cab without insulation. What have others done?
Thanks!
Bud

Thanks, Nick! I couldn't see any reason for removing insulation, but thought I'd check first. It is a direct mount. I kicked it around between Pac and BD and then found the Pac on sale. I just have to finish a little bit of wiring and it should be good.

Be careful lining up the brake to the turbo, it doesn't do it on itself, you need to do it very carefully to get in in line. Otherwise you'll have an exhaust leak that harms the brake power.
I needed three approaches to get it thight.

Thanks, Ozy! It's all done except wiring the switch. I mounted the brake all by myself - it is a heavy unit! I almost did the work in a bay without the lift, but decided to move over to the lift and it sure made the work underneath easier. I saw some YouTube videos that just used a clamp for the attachment to the downpipe, but wanted to weld it, so the pipe had to come out.

I finally got back to this project. I had to take a break because I promised my wife I'd build some brackets and rods to hold curtains to shade her new deck furniture from the morning sun. Then, I had to do some work where some cows had pounded out the ground in a corner of a pasture and the fence was in danger of falling over.

Finished it up this morning, and Nick is right. This thing is amazing! I did a little road test and am anxious to see how it does when I get a trailer hooked up.
