Hauling 21,000 up to northern Georgia a couple of days ago and my pacbrake quit working. Checked fuses, wiring ( switch lights up but no brake). Felt like it was not engaging all the way a few times before it stopped completely. Tried engaging it manually to see if it was just sticking ect. Acts like it is not getting any power to activate but probe shows power going to brake. Any suggestions... ... ... ..... Really need the brake as I haul from 12,000 to 25,000 about 3 times a week and have gotten spoiled using the brake.

Have you checked the solenoid valve? Sometimes some grit can get in there and prevent the little shuttle from actuating. There's some little springs inside it so best to remove the entire valve and then disassemble it someplace where you won't lose any pieces.

pacbrake cleaning pdf

I have a pdf for disassembly and cleaning the solenoid and was going to PM with an attachment but don't see that option. anyone give me a pointer/

clean solenoid valve

I think the valve needs cleaning every 20-25,000 miles. The info can be found on Pac-Brake's website. If a person just gets in the habit of cleaning it every 2nd or 3rd oil change, it is never a problem. (I have to wait until it quits, as I can never remember to clean it on a scheduled basis!)

Mine did the exact opposite a few weeks back. Rolled up to a red light using the pac. Went to take off and it wouldn't shut off. I couldn't get it off without pulling the vacuum hoses. Had to shove a ball point pen in the ends so I'd have my other vac operated equip. Anyhow, taking everything down to the valve housing and blowing/cleaning it out fixed my problem. I filled that entire intersection with black smoke trying to get it to go with the brake stuck on.

Mine has done both

Mine has both stopped working and stuck on. Called Pac-Brake, they said it's the vacuum chamber. The seal is bad and I need to get a new one. About $150. 00. Collins Fuel Injection says they sell re-built units and Pac-Brake says they are not re-buildable.

Thinking about buying a new one and trying to re-build the old one.

All it takes is just a pinch of dust/gunk to make the valve stick one way or the other. As stated above, just try cleaning it out before buying a new one.

Cleaned it.

When I talked to Pac-Brake one of the thing they told me was to clean it and re-set it. Re-setting involves taking a small thin object and pressing the button on the "cone shaped" end. Press this withe engine running. Brake on or off and the brake will activate and de-activate when released.

I did this with the vacuum lines to the cylinder disconnected. It (solenoid) worked fine. When the lines are on, no workee. One other thing they mentioned was did it do this air when the ambient temp is low. It is.

I cleaned the selonoid today and took it out for a spin and the brake worked fine for about 20 min and stopped working again. Will check into taking it all the way down next weekend. PacBrake said to send it back to them for repair but wouldn't give me a estimate so won't be going there yet.
