My exhaust brake does not engage, I can hear the pump run . It seems that there is not enough air pressure to push the shaft.

I can hold my finger over the hose and feel a little air.

Is there a replacement pump that doesn't cost a lot? Can it be repaired?

Thanks for your help,

Rob...

When the compressor starts, does it than shut off when it reaches 90 lbs or does it run all the time... . if the compressor runs all the time, than you either have a leak or a compressor that's bad...

There have been some issues with some of the early air compressors... call pacbrake and see if they will do you a favor and sell you a replacement at a reduced cost... .

We've not had issues with the cylinder... only dirt from no filter or a bad filter will allow the dirt to damage the seals in the compressor... I've had many a complete pacbrake go the life of the truck while I've had it... . and functioned as it should at the time of sale... often at 500K miles... but we leave them on all the time and every year give the compressor a teaspoon of oil and clean the air filter...

Hope this helps...

Sure... I'd connect an air line between the compressor and the solenoid, simply remove the pressure switch... usually a 1/8" pipe fitting and charge the system with 80 or so lbs of air... . if your pacbrake is not connected to the ECM just turn it on..... if its connected to the ECM than go through what ever is normal for your truck to turn on the brake... .

Once its charged up... . take a spray bottle with water and some dish soap and spray all the fittings... . some leakage back through the compressor can be normal is the installation doesn't have a one way check valve... and I've seen some cylinders leak a little around the shaft but rarely see them leak where they won't function or are bad... . do this test with the pacbrake on..... its the fastest way to find a leak...

BTW - I was thinking... . some of the cast housing's are painted blue and some are black (nitrated) like a dull finish on a gun barrel... . the painted housings had rust issues if the brake wasn't used all the time... . in those cases the housing needs to be removed, cleaned and lubed with a special lubricant available from pacbrake... . do not remove the butterfly..... but it has to be cleaned from the inside and lubed from the inside... any oil not designed to work at 1000*F will do nothing more than gum up and stop the works. .

In all the trucks I used to own and all the units I installed or serviced it was only those painted blue and that weren't used much that had issues... almost all of them motor homes that sat or the owners had no clue how to really use the brake...

The black nitrate finish is in the metal after the machine work has been done... so its a great fix... .

Hope this helps.

Thanks again.

I did take the air line off and put my finger over ther end . There is no where 80 lbs of air on the hose. Guess I need a new pump. .

SSalzer has a very good point... . When the pacbrake is installed the installer should verify that all lines are where the heat from the engine compartment can thaw them...

My 05 is sitting out in 7*F weather with the engine plugged in as I'm going to use it today... . When I start the truck, the engine will go to fast idle and the pacbrake will come on to preheat the engine... .

As we are in AZ. at this time. Freezing is out. Have not had time to put air to it as we donated money at Laughlin this week.

Thanks for the replys.

Jack - after 30 something years and my ownership for the past 15 years... . We ran into an issue with the Landlord... after deciding that I didn't care for a lease over the next 7 years... I closed the place and auctioned it off... I'm eligible for Social Security and just didn't want a commitment for 7 years...

So I'm sorry, I can't help with sales and installation... . We were pacbrake distributors for 25 years or so... so I add my 2 cents worth here when I can...

Can't say that I blame you Jim. You earned your retirement, enjoy it.

Hi,

Back again,

I did some more checking today and I get air in the 80 to 100 lb range. Gauge is not to accrute.

Now the problem is it doesn't get pass a valve with 2 wires . It says Mac model 35a-aaa-ddba-1ba. I guess this is the one that opens the air to the ram.

Anyone know what it is and where to get one... thanks again

guess nobody knows what the relay is? Thanks

If you go to Pacbrake ( click aftermarket products, then technical literature, then Dodge) and do some looking you should find everything you need to know. There have been a few changes on how the control circuit works. Do you have a air storage tank?

The relay is a standard part and is available at Napa for about $20. Just take in the old one for comparison. Thats the only part I've had fail on mine.
