PacBrake problems. . Took it off for complete inspection. . butterfly somewhat warped (probably from getting hot, one time it failed to open). . called PacBrake re: parts. "Sorry, no parts available, you'll just have to replace the whole unit" ($5-600)

"I would just like rebuild it!". . "Oh no, you can't take it apart, you'll never get it back together"

Well. . we pulled out the butterfly, the shaft and seals. . and de-carbon-ed it, peened the butterfly and shaft straight, then re-assembled it.

It works, despite the factory-tech's prediction (for how-long, is questionable, considering the heat-damage). . but it really irritates me that a company such as this won't sell you repair parts, but wants to sell a new unit, instead!

When this one finally fails, you can bet that I'll be buying something OTHER than PacBrake!. . Something you can get replacement PARTS for.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Has anyone tried to buy parts for another brand of brake?

my pac brake

I melted my pac brake vac line and misdianosed it as a faulty vac cyclinder! The guy's @ pac brake( cris or greg?)sent me a new cyclinder at their cost to get me up and running. the brake work's *****en and their coustomer has been good to me! sorry about the problem's your having and hope you can work them out

I've got over 150K miles on my Pac Brake. The only problem I've had was that the vacuum valve stuck. That was exciting because of the huge cloud of black smoke. I didn't know what was wrong so I took the brake apart to clean it. No problem putting it back together. Then I cleaned the vacuum valve. It had just enuff carbon to make the little piston stick. That was something like 20K miles ago. Still working great. I use it all the time.

Ram4, Bill Kondolay has alot of experience with PacBrake.

I bet if you give Bill a call 1-866-504-4002 he could give you some great advice :)
