Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Pacbreak

I had a Pacbreak installed a few months ago. It works great towing. Today the weather was nice enough to have the windows down and I heard an underhood noise. The best I can explain is when the exhaust break is engaged it sounds like a plugged hand vacume hose (I assume this is normal from backpressure) and when it releases it has a woosh and klink sound. I don't know anyone that has one and don't have anything to go by as far as normal sound. With the windows up all I hear is the backpressure same as usual. I've checked for leaks and can't find anything. Is the woosh and metalic sound when it disengages normal? Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question.
