Totally bummed..
I changed my rear diff fluid (and installed a new AAM cover) and after draining my oil pan, there were a bunch of chunks of metal in the bottom.

The odd thing is I used my finger to scoop out the bottom of the diff and didn't feel anything but I did find a some very small pieces stuck on the inside of the cover. I didn't notice this until after I put the cover on and filled it up but while it was apart I shined a light inside and didn't notice any issues with teeth or parts laying inside but then again I didn't look very hard either.
Some of the pieces look like tiny teeth but maybe they were formed by being jammed between the gears (shutter) .
Anybody seen anything like this before? What do I do now?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

It looks like pieces from the internals of your LS. Not uncommon for an AAM.If those pieces ran between the teeth of your ring and pinion you will have tooth damage.

Thanks ATA, that's pretty much exactly what the local shop told me over the phone and that it may not be a big deal but just wear. He wants to see the bits tomorrow.

Update: The LS was trashed. Shop couldn't tell me why it happened, they didn't think it was from abuse, power or anything I could have done. He said it's rare but it just happens sometimes.
So a boat load of money and a new carrier later, it's back on the road.
