Installed a Perfect Performance Product Painless Wiring setup a year ago (weather proof type) and only have my CB and gauge's hooked to it. The circuit works fine until hot weather and heat from the engine cause the relay to open. The relay will close on its own after driving at freeway speeds for a short time.

Does anyone know of an upgraded relay for this unit? I haven't made contact with Perfect Performance yet either for I purchased through Geno's Garage. Any thoughts?

Dave,

I've been using one exactly like yours under the hood for years with no problems. There's something wrong with yours.

I know you already knew that... What I mean is that most of these units work great. Painless Wiring doesn't seem to use cheap parts. Even good companies can occasionally send out a defective unit. It's how they stand behind their products that matters.

I'd recommend you contact Geno's. I'm sure they'll make it right.

Good luck,

Loren

I think if I where you I would get a new Bosch relay and replace the one in the painless set up. You can get a new relay at just about any auto parts store. I bought two of them last week for about $5 each. If that does not fix your problem I think I would check the ground on the setup. Maybe your ground is going away when it engine compartment gets hot. I had a situation like that with a truck once.

Move the unit out from under the hood... is your CB under your hood? Didn't think so... . so why should your power be there? I have the Painless wireing unit and one wire through the firewall and it powers everything in the cab... . n2o, lpg, water, linelock, Halon, transbrake, coffee maker, George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine... . you know the basics;)
