I got a painless wiring kit from Geno's but I have not found a place to put under the hood. There is not much room for anything under there.

Where have you guy's put them.

where did you get a fuse that is hot whit the key on. All the fuse's in the fuze box are hot all the time.

any help would be good.

Pailness box location

Rayb, I mounted mine right behind the battery on the pass. side near against the metal near the hinge, then ran the wires across in the factory loom against the firewall. I used a "spare" fuse slot which showed ign. hot with a test light, then went through the firewall where there is an oval shaped plastic plug and was done. Hope this helps.

I was looking at the passengers side for mine too. That or on top of the fuse box lid; anyone try that? Near the drivers side would be nice for easier access to the drivers side mounted switches/toggles.

I bought the one to go under the hood, but wound up mounting it inside. I took the knee bolster off and mounted it with one screw to the metal brace to the right of the steering column. It is easy to get to, all you have to do is pull out on the top of the boulster and it swings down. I found a switched hot wire under the dash, I can't remember now which wire it was.

I hope this may help in some small way. If I could post a pic I would, sorry.

llotton,

Do you remember whcih spare slot you used? How did you tap into it? The little metal extender that came with the Painless kit seems to make the fuse blade too thick to fit back into the contacts.

???

BTW, I ended up mounting mine on top of the fuse box and it looks like it will work well. Will post pics when project is done :D

Thanks!

Duck I think it was slot 32 "spare" I will look and tell you if thats not the case. I used a file to narrow the metal adapter to the point that I could use a fuse and then attach the wire from the kit. The wire is so small that I just ran it out of the box and put the lid back on and it worked fine. Larry

Mounted mine on the hood by the drivers hinge and "loomed" the wires down to the anti-lock brake area then thru the grommet below the steering column. Also, because of the Autometer pyro's, mounted the pyro box up there. If I can find some under hood lites that will plug into the connector, will add that wiring to the loom. Also moved the e-brake hot from the battery to the painless always hot (which is where the pyro box is wired).

Found out that the Cobra 75wsx cb will lose it settings when switched off by the ing. Am going to use one of the hots for it so this doesnt happen. If I have to park the trk for a week or 2 (trips) will just pull the fuses for these. Wired the hot to the terminal that feeds the pwr dist bx & am deciding wether to go with an ing only for the rest or ing/accs.

Need to find a place on the eng to put a pressure switch (oil?) to use for another project - give me a ground only when eng is running. To get flasher for markers when towing, had to bend the ground tab on the relay out and then wired a switch in between the lug and the socket that is NC. Found out that the headlite sw uses different volts to tell the computer what to ground for lites. This computer control of all lights/functions is getting "old" when we want to "modify" for convience.

First this is for "Duck" The spare slot I used was 37.

Now for Ben Stair. What do you mean the radio sost it settings when switched off. I had planned to use an ign. hot wire from the painless unit for mine but perhaps will need to rethink that. Larry

Had the cb set to ch 19 w/chl lock on and after overnite/long day of power off to the unit it "defaults" back to ch 9 and the chl lock goes off. Just have to reset the way I have mine ( 19/lock /scan/etc) each time the power is off fo a long period. Manual says to hook to battery so as not to l"lose" its memory. Just gonna use one of the painless hots instead of an ing line. Means I need to turn the cb radio off when shutting down. Liked to have mine on an ing hot but not the 75swx due to this. Will still use the ing line for the painless and this has nothing to do with the painless unit, only the cb.

Thanks Ben I guess I will just have to put up with that as I am more worried about leaving the unit on and running my battery down. I only use the CB when I am on the road more that just to and from town so I will just set it then. Larry
