i have a htt manifold and its got a rust scale on it and im wondering if theres a good paint to use after i blast it. ive currently have it off, for some head work. any ideas. . want a cast color.

A buddy and I used to restore and hot rod old Mustangs and such. We used a product from Eastwood to coat our headers and manifolds. It was a 4 step process - 1-sand blast, 2-pressure wash to remove all oils etc, 3-while still hanging on whatever you hung them on to pressure wash there was a produce (from Eastwood) that you sprayed on them - it would turn them a hazy green and 4-after this stuff cured you sprayed on their exhaust manifold paint. After the install they smoked like crazy - this was part of the curing process. They finish looked like stock metal grey after it cured and lasted a long time. How long? I did a set of "Tri-Y" headers on my 64 Falcon back in 91 and the last time I saw it 2003 it looked real good - dirty but no rust. Wish I would have done my ATS 3 piece will all the steps before I put it on . . . I just put the paint on and it's not sticking - after 2 years it's rusty. I'll do it right next time I take it off. Good stuff.

I'm going to try something on my manifold.

I figure if I can season a cast iron pot to a nice black finish, I should be able to so the same thing to my cast iron manifold.

Coat the whole thing with cooking oil and take a ride, let it cool, coat it again, go for a ride, let it cool and repeat the process. My cast iron stuff has nice black finish to it. If it doesn't work, then I'll look at getting it ceramic coated.

Bacon fat is absolutely the way to go if your going to do this... .

Bio-Diesel out the exhaust and bacon on the manifold - ummmmm, smells like breakfast to me.

Let us know how your manifold turns out - send a snap shot.

I saw some on ebay. It's a brush on thing. Just wirebrush off any rust and paint it on.

My 98 is about due for it's second coat. Holds up pretty good IMO.

I believe the guy that sells it runs a corvette club in the Va. area.

Then figure out how toe keep the dogs out from under my hood might become the next issue.

I take it you've tried this before? If so, how did it work?
