Paint Question -How much $

Ok you guys that have had a first gen repainted, I need a little information. I'm going to get a couple of quotes to have my truck repainted and was wondering how much it cost some of you guys. This way I'll know whether to accept a bid or tell them to go pound sand.



Don't need to know the names of the shops(unless they are in the Santa Rosa area then E-mail me please), just a generic amount. I don't know of any good shops personally as I have never had anything repainted.

This will definately depend on what kind of a paint job you want. First thing I would do is be sure and go to a reputable shop. Then do a search on paint and educate yourself as to the different types of paint that can be applied to your truck. I would avoid enamel because it isn't very durable and hard to repair. { I would recommend basecoat/clearcoat} It will depend on how much labor the job will require. A good paintjob will require quite a bit of labor. The materials alone can cost from $600 to over $2500.

How mutch money do you have??

I work at a body shop [ford dealer] And usally you are looking at 2000-3000 that is doing it right. Some people dont take the door handles and all that stuff out and just tape around them and that leaves a place later down the road to chip off I dont care how goods you are. I am write now re-painting mine whene we are slow and I have 350$ in paint and meterials,and me doing the work, that is a generic PPG paint called OMNI mader by PPG though. You might try to find some one that does some work at home or on the side, they could usally do it cheaper then a shop could do it, We charge 40$ an hour. And you might be able to take some of the stuff off for them to save some money, but make shure you go to a good shop with a good rep, they say "you get what you pay for" :--) Justin

I painted just the bed of my truck (used one since I wrecked mine). It took a lot of time but not a lot of money. Had I bought just enough paint to do the bed I think the paint would have been about $100. I bought enough to do the whole truck and my 20' trailer, for about $400. Basecoat/clearcoat, 2 tone. It took me about 2 months to do the prep and a weekend to paint. I had estimates to do just the bed between $500 and $900. I did it myself for around $600 (had to buy some tools . I still haven't done the trailer :-(.

Thanks guys. I was kinda thinking $2500 or so. Have a few real small dings to take out and want a base/clear coat system. Does anyone know what the original paint was on these?



The rocker panel area on my truck is silver, don't need to repaint that area. From the side moulding up is the area that the original green color needs to be redone. Am planning on staying with the original color so the door jambs and interior won't need to be repainted.

. . had mine repainted for $2600 with PPG, did not include the inside of the bed as it is Line-x.

The shop took the truck down to bare metal. Looked gruesome!



Your original paint job was done with a quality of paint that was guaranteed either to either flake, peel, fade or otherwise disintergrate within 10 years.

Mine is the 9 year also! That's why I'm going to repaint. The wife say's "why" but she just doesn't understand!

Do your homework on a shop first. I had to have mine painted twice due to poor work. Second one cost $2,000. Looks good but still not perfect as I would have expected for the money.
