Upon washing my truck today, I noticed some yellow streaks below the fuel fill door that appears to be diesel stains. I've tried several things to remove them, but nothing sems to work. The paint is bright white so these stains are noticeable. Since the outer fenders are plastic, stains are more of a problem there than on the metal surfaces. Has anyone seen this before? What will remove it?

I have the same problem on white, and nothing so far has removed it for me either.

I have the same problem with stains. I used McGuires cleaner/wax to remove them. It took alot of rubbing, but it worked. It seams that everything that lands on it, stains it. Somethings not right.

Here's an idea...

Go to your local home center, and buy a quart of good ol' laquer thinner. Rub down the area with some on a rag, and then wax the area you rubbed. This shoudl work great, and will not harm the finish. My '98. 5 got speckled with epoxy paint from a bridge, and the laquer thinner took it all off. Took a long time, but it worked great.

Shawn L. Turbo suggested I use dish soap as it is designed to cut grease. I will try it.
The thing that bugs me is I had the Dodge paint sealer put on this truck and part of the pitch was that it will not stain.
hmmmm.

I would check out Evan's theory in a very obscure painted area on your Ram prior to blazing away with the lacquer thinner as you may surprised at the effects. #ad
However, if you meant to say paint thinner Evan, well, that's a different story.

John...

I'll see your grinder, and my sawzall, AND raise you 2 plasma torches... #ad

Seriously John, the laquer thinner was recommended to me by a local body shop. They said it will not harm the clear coat, but to be sure to try it in a hidden area first. I was surpised how well it worked. I even used it for removing tar from my 4" exhaust tips on the 98. Most important thing is to WAX the area afterwards though... #ad

I always use a piece of a brick and some coal oil.

I didn't like the sanding marks left by the grinder and the torch just distorted my bed moulding,so I'll just keep spraying over it with Krylon... good color match!

Tell ya what Evan, take a spomge, soak it with laquer thinner, place it in the middle of your hood for approximately ten minutes and note the results. To accelerate the process use M. E. K. #ad

Get some Sherwin Williams "Desert White" and apply it with a 1/2 inch nap roller and you will never know the difference (from 100 yards).

Ooooh M. E. K. yummy stuff! *LOL* Well of course it won't be good to let it sit for 10 mintues, John. That's why you apply only a small amount on a rag. Cleans it up real nice... M. E. K. would be a different story. That stuff is pretty nasty. Xylene is another one that is not friendly... Acetone is good stuff, but it's odor bring back haunting memories of August 21, 1999 #ad

Hey Evan, laquer thinner contains a percentage of ketone (M. E. K. ) in its chemiucal composition. #ad

Oh, and BTW, I DO REMEMBER you telling me what happened now (8-21-99). I guess I could say, I know what you did last summer. LOL (but not about the accident)

Seriously though... .....

If you want to get rid of those stains, take a soft sponge, warm soapy (dishwashing liquid- I used Sunlight), and wash it off.

Pressure washers NEVER get this stuff off... This always works for me.

The compound a lot of body shops and the dealers use is called "PERFECT-IT" Foam Polishing Glaze. MAKE SURE you get the LIGHT OR DARK for the color of the truck and wash off the residue after you finish.

Made by 3M available at refinishing suppliers, one bottle will do the truck 4-5 times and leaves a great finish. #ad
