I don't know why they don't paint the drive shafts.

I was wondering if anyone on this board has painted their drive shafts and did it cause any vibration problems. I can't imagine a coat of aluminum paint unbalancing the drive shaft, but before I paint them I thought I would ask just incase anyone has had a bad experience.

Thanks

Been painted for 50K miles. No imbalance if painted all around. They don't paint to save money. My 2000 nissan was painted at factory (in Tennessee)

My 04. 5 rusted in a month also. The first thing I did when I brought the 06 home was get out the black rustoleum and the creaper! No problems. Looks good still.

you could gob paint on it as many times as you like and have runs and drips, and it won't cause a balance problem. . you'd need to have like a 1/16" coat of paint on it before you would even get into balance problems.

mine is still rusty. i haven't gotten under it to paint it yet

Do yourself a favor and balance it too! I had mine balanced when I got my trans done, and it really cut down on vibrations above 60 mph.

Painted my drive shaft also, got 3MPG better on the highway, and it took a selight vibration out!!!. O ya and it looks good... .

Darn! Painting added 3mpg. Must have used red paint!

I used 20+ cans on the 05 aswell as the 99.

Next time I will use a comp and a 5 gal bucket. One bit of advice wax it before and after, the over spray comes off no problem ;).

Mac

Took care of mine today. Driveshafts & yokes, front spindles and outer rotor hubs were all rusty. And these are the only bad spots on the truck. . thanks to Ziebart.

After some scuffing & degreasing. . I went at it with a brush & some POR 15. Man what a difference. . Looks great... I never used the stuff before. . should be interesting how it hangs in there.

Midlife crisis

The POR 15 is awsome stuff. Real strong and will last forever. Only problem is it fades in direct sun so don't paint your trailer or something like that with out the UV coating. Painted the underside of my Jeep thats mainly rockcrawls and only the big rocks scrape it off, no fading either. Worth the money IMO.
