Decent turnout in Houston & images

RMTDR Get-Together Saturday Oct. 27

I think Gary and I are going to try a set of slapper bars and see what happens. The four link is rather pricey. I intend to go to 15" wheels once I get rid of the drum brakes and then It's MONSTER TRACTION for me!!! Like Baskin-Robbins, there's 87 flavors of slicks for the 15" wheels.

I'll be talking to a truck spring shop about building a new set of leafs for the back. I need something slightly less rigid then the golden gate bridge back there:)

Run the Caltrac thing by me again. Is that a slapper bar?

Caltracs

It works sort of like a 4 link, but it uses the spring as the top bar.

I will most likely make all of us dumber by trying to explain it so here is the link Calvert Racing

I have a set on my car, it was all bolt up no drilling or welding. Some choice words since I had to take my 30 year old front spring eye bushing out and replace it with an aluminum one(included). Very nice product, powder coated black with top class rod ends and welds. Check em out! They are even in CA maybe close to you??

Roger that.

It started coming back to me a bit later.

I called them and they seem to think they have a setup that will work.

$319 for a set which seems like a bargain.

I'll need to get the leaf springs replaced with a softer set.

This will be a LOT cheaper then a four link.

At least it will be a start.

My sidekick Gary is a bit concerned about the potential problems with bolting the Caltracs to the bottom of the dana axle. On my truck the spring is over the axle and I have a plate below the axle which is retained by the u-bolt nuts.

I'll try to straighten this out tomorrow.

The 1500 ram is set up the same way, so it appears they have a way of making it work. Before I bought mine(which was before they had a website) I did a search and found ALOT of 1500 ram owners that were using them. All seemed to be happy. Of course this was at least 2 years ago, I first read about them in the Mid america drag news.

Competition Engineering also has a similair setup called the "slide a link" the name sounds like crap but its a decent looking product. And the people that I have talked to that use them seem to like them.

When I ordered mine they had to make them before they sent them out to me. Maybe express your concern over the mounting position ETC and see what they say. Maybe you will get a custon one off "Super Diesel" set lol.

That 4-link setup you posted looks like its for a show truck more than anything. Kinda spindly looking. Nowell... don't forget you got 600HP+ ;)

BTW Gary's concern also applies to the slapper bars also. If you build a set of custon springs for your truck why not put the axle on top of them??? Look  go fast

Hey nowel,to bad you didn't know about the bars when you came down here! they are about 15 miles from the track and about 3 blocks from my house! let me know if you need anything.

Later Mike
