Hey Guys,
My 2004 Auto Trans CTD has a problem when putting the truck into park. The problem seems electrical not mechanical. Sometimes the shifter seems to think it is in Reverse when I've put it into park. I pull up to a stop, put the truck in park, take off my seatbelt, take my foot off the brake and open the door as I sit for a minute to let the truck cool. The horn honks and the shift indicator flashes - as it is supposed to do when in Reverse with those conditions (door open, seatbelt off). In other words, the computer still thinks the truck is in reverse, though the trans is clearly in Park mechanically (the truck doesn't move).
I am guessing there is a sensor inside the shifter mechanism on the column which tells the truck where the lever is??? Or is the problem occurring at the transmission (range switch) or in the cable between the shifter and the transmission???
