Being that I have a manual trans in my truck it is kind of important that my Parking brake works. When I went to replace the shoes I discovered that the backing plate on one side was damaged so I call my favourite Dodge partsman and ordered a new one. What I ended up with was a compete assembly, an updated version so I replaced both sides.

To do this you have to pull the axles and remove the hubs. My shop manual tells me I needed toll p/n 8954. I went on line and found them for around a $150. Since I couldn't get one from Mac or Snap-on and knowing that Miller makes Dodges tools I went on to their site and called them to ask where I could buy one. Note the web address.
http://mopar.snapon.com/item-detail.aspx?ItemId=2090003&part_number=8954&type=tools&keyword=8954. It arrived in the mail later that month. Here is a picture of it in the adjusting nut and one of OTC 7090A ( the tool I use for my Dyna Trac hubs up front. ) http://www.amazon.ca/OTC-7090A-Locknut-Socket-Wrench/dp/B0002STRTA. Now I have both.

As you can see it fits although not as snug being that the front hub socket has square tangs.
When I pulled the axles I discover that sometime in the trucks previous life it had had a major bearing failure on the right rear. The axle was scored up but everything else had been replaced including cutting off the old "spindle" and welding on a new one. Interestingly it had been put on "straight" were as the original is on an angle. Having it on straight means you can use an impact on all 4 bolt not just 3.

The left side had bad bearings but I did this on a holiday weekend out at a friends place so we had to put it back together and will get the new bearings later and take it apart again.

I also dropped a brake pad and it came apart so now I have to buy new pads as well. ( there was only about 25k on them
)
The part number for the backing plate assy is 52010141AC. The rear wheel seal p/n is 5086773AB. The axle gaskets are p/n 5086767AC. The bearings are 28682 & 28622 and LM104949 & LM104911. You need 2 of everything.
When I go to do the bearings I will change the diff oil as well. Since I don't use the truck that much and it sits a lot, especially during the winter I have learned that I will have to change the oil once a year. It is an open diff so I just need syn 75w90.
Always an adventure awaiting. David
