On my club cab, the parking brake cable keeps coming un-hooked where it connects to the foot pedal. I have greased the cable, adjusted the thing one way and the other, and the cable still flys out. I am about ready to go down to the local international dealer and buy a floor lever at this rate :D Any one else have this problem, or have a remedy?

Thanks!

The hole where the round nub on the end of the cable is should have a plastic plug in it to keep the nub in where it belongs. If it is not there you could probably find one in a salvage yard, at the dealer or use another piece of plastic that will fit in the hole and block it.

OOPS, I jumped too quickly. I was thinking of the accel. pedal. The same type of trick should work though. The cable end is coming out of the arm on the pedal right?

Just went out under the dash of my truck with a flashlight. As long as there is tension on the cable it shouldn't pop out. The only thing I can think of is that the horseshoe piece that cable hooks into may be worn.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Parking Brake

Check that the cables going to each rear wheel are not frozen. Unfortunately the rear brake automatic adjusters don't work very well, if your brakes are out of adjustment it can adversly affect the parking brake. With new cables and freshly adjusted brakes the parking brake pedal should travel about 1. 5 inch. If all is well, when the parking brake is released the pedal should snap back up smartly.

i would suspect one or both of your rear cables has a problem.

Neil :)

Thanks for the help guys! When I bought this truck, it had this problem, but all of the cables and anything brake related have been replaced(I've checked too. My best guess, and as stated above, is that the auto adjusters are out of wack, and I just can't wait to pull a drum to see what is going on in there.

Not funny, but my dump truck had brake work done to pass inspection, and they never attached the cable for both of the adjusters, cute, but it still passed inspection at their station, love the slam-jobs

Oh yeah, I'll take a look at the pedal to for wear, it only has 158,000 on it :D
