Went to the dealer today to fetch some oil for the NV4500 5spd. I gave the parts man my part number 4637579 then come out with 4 quarts. Two problems the part number is not the same and the weight number is different 75-85.
I insisted that I need more proof that this was ok to use. The manager went and looked up in his service manual. He verified that the part number I gave him was correct. So they called some one in the cities for verification. Still waiting for him too call back.
Another question I have is why there was not one word mentioned on the bottle about that it was made by Castrol Syntorq LT? Is it or not?
Is the price any different between Chrystler and General Motors. I see thats what is listed on the PTO plate on the transmission.

Big bad Dodgezilla.

Well the dealer called back. Parts man says the 75w-85 is what they recomend now. Its a different part number. Cant remember it though too many numbers. He says the 75w-85 supercedes the 75w-90. Not sure what that means. But it must be better.
They have no idea who makes the stuff? All it states on the bottle is that its a mopar part. I read on the bottle that it was to be used in the NV4500 transmission.
I have heard nothing of this change. Did any one else experience or know anything about this?

I almost put a different brand of synthetic in my transmission then I saw on this site to only use SNYTORQ LT others my damaged the synchronizers. You can't buy it from Castrol, I went to one of thier warehouses and the guy thier tried to get it but its only sold to GM and DODGE. DODGE wanted around twenty three or four dollars. Got it at the local chevy dealer for $13. 43 a quart list was $20. 59. The part # is 12346190 on the bottle it has GM VEHICLE CARE SYNTHETIC MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID,thier is no weight # or manufacture name on the bottle.

Considering you have no warrenty to hold you hostage, I would get your money back and go find some high quality synthetic for half the price. I run Amsoils Series 2000 75W90 in my 96. Their are others that are also as good or better the factory ripoff. I changed the fluid every 40K. Trans rebuilt at 150K. No damage to anything beyond normal wear and tear. Rebuild caused by several 5th gear problems taking spines off main shaft.

There is some difference of opinion as to GL5 vs GL4. NVG recomends GL4. The oil I ran was GL5. I never seen trans oil temps go over 200 in 150K miles. Again, 150K of hard pulling and abusing and GL5 oil did not cause any premature failer.

I stuck a new 12/99 build NVG back in. I had a temp gauge in the old trans and one in this new one. This new one runs 10 - 15 degrees warmer. Will dump the fuild at 40K and add the Amsoil back in. See what happend then.

I see the 2001 trucks list a Texaco fluid in the Owners manual yet the same Castrol LT tag is on the PTO plate. The oil seems thinner the the original oil that came in my 96.

Jeff,
Your NV4500 (5-speed) requires a Synthetic GL-4 Gear lube. Yes the Amsoil 80W-90 GL-4 gear lube will work fine for $17. 70 per gallon.
