Just as I was about to brag about my trouble free motor, a part fell off as I pulled in the driveway. Specifically the outer part of the AC clutch... it just fell to the ground! I gather that the culprit is a 2cent nut that held the part onto the splined shaft and has taken a vacation. I'm hoping the nut is available at the parts desk by itself... ... . !

Also my steering gearbox has developed a drip drip drip. Anyone have this problem? I haven't figured out what the leak point is, but it appears to be the top of the gearbox.

That's all for now! Drive safe y'all!

Yup. Had the leaky gear box happen to my 2004. 5 but was replaced under warranty. The dealership thought it was the reservoir, but I had already determined it was coming from the gearbox. So one trip to inspect and set an appointment. Of course they did not listen to me and replaced something on the reservoir and one of the P/S hoses. Still had the same leak so took it back again and then they had to order the part. Took it back again and they replaced the gearbox. The nearest dealer is 40 miles one way and when you have to leave it it's X two vehicles X the number of trips you make. I have heard since that the gearbox is weak on this and other years of third generation trucks and I have seen threads in the TDR and on this forum for after market units. I believe I read that MOPAR went to a different unit in 2010. I put the BD diesel steering box, frame stiffener upgrade on thinking it might help take some strain off the unit. No problem the last 70,000 miles. But I am knocking on wood as I write that.

I had the very same thing to happen with the AC clutch hub. I was pulling into a parking lot when I noticed my AC quit. I got parked and then heard a noise, slid up under the truck and found the hub laying in the radiator shroud. I thought the bolt had simply come out,and I could get another bolt and put the hub back on. Wasn't that simple, the bolt had broke off! And there really isn't no way to get it out. Went to my local auto air shop, and they said they see it quite often. Said they would have to replace the entire compressor at a price of around $600. 00. I had read on another forum where someone had same issue and got some JB weld and put it on the splined shaft and put it back on. I did the same and haven't had a problem since. I know I will eventually have to address it though.

Hadn't thought of that! Well a new compressor installed was 500 bucks so its all good for the next hundred thousand or so miles!
