My 3500 has the shudder on accelleration. It's very mild and I can "drive around it". Yes, it's under warranty, but if I take it in I'll likely be without my truck for a few days. I have a family member that can likely get me the parts at cost, so I'd rather spend a few bucks and fix it myself to avoid the downtime. Any help?

Here is the info from a PM I sent to another member on the same issue.

The launch shudder is very easy to fix. It is drive line angle related PERIOD. If it is shuddering empty it most likely needs the center support lowered. The TSB does not reference it, but there is a 1" spacer kit from Mopar. The kit number is 05135709AA and included longer bolts and the spacer.

Keep in mind the shudder will change depending on the loading in the bed. If you plan to add some weight all the time (camper, toolbox etc) you might see if the shudder goes away just from the weight. It really is not a serious problem, just annoying.

Thanks alot. I'm very confident that it's the carrier bearing height. My F250 did the exact same thing after I lifted it. I made a 1 inch spacer, dropped the carrier and cured it. I'll see how much my Brother-in-law can get it for.

On a side note.....

Have you ever heard of anyone going with a custom 1-piece aluminum shaft? I've never liked the split shaft setup.

When you drop the carrier, go ahead and pull the shaft off the pinion and check for tight/siezed ujoints while your there.

I show you should get it for $54 or less - FWIW

After 3 or 4 more or less useless trip to a good dealer, mine ended up being the u-joints. Not saying yours is one or the other, but be sure to check them out if not jus treplace them while you got it out.

Precision 351-6spd--not sure if G56 uses the same ones

Precision 295-Auto

Bracket replacement had better not take "a few days". I think mine took about 1. 5 hrs at the dealer.

I tried having a one piece shaft made a while back on a vibration problem. The shop said it was too long for one piece and it would start whipping around and break it if they tried to make one.

After looking under there, if the u-joints are OK, I'll make my own spacer out of 1" square tubing and use longer bolts. I did this on my Ford and it only cost 3-4 $.

I know the swap won't take long but I've yet to see a local dealer "jump right on it" when you take something in. I know they'll tell me to leave the truck with them and then I'm stuck arranging a ride. Dealer service has really become an inconvenience over the years. I never take a vehicle in for something I can fix myself.
