Does anyone know the Felpro part numbers for the Dana 60 front and the 70 rear? I have to change the fluids now that I have a few miles since my gear change.

Any reason why I shouldnt use synthetic gear oil?

My truck is still kind of a virgin since it only has about 1300 miles on it.

Hey Bill, I don't think there are any gaskets for the axle gear housings. When I took mine apart there was just silcone sealant, and that's what they recommend you go back with. I believe the perferred sealant is the gray, but I used the blue "oil resistant" sealant this last time.

Bill, I have had the best luck with just the grey RTV and no gasket. Put a 1/8" or so bead all the way around, and be sure to put some sealant on the bolt threads that are in the lower half of the cover. Just snug it down to squeeze the sealant out a little bit, wait one hour and torque the bolts. Refill. When it is dry you can use a razor blade to trim the excess off so it looks good.

I would for sure use a synthetic to fill with, you have enough miles to properly break in the gear set and bearings.

Bill,

I just changed the fluid in the dana 80 a couple of weeks ago. I also used the blue rtv. Make sure you follow the directions. I let it sit after reinstalling the cover for 1 hour before adding fluid with no leaks. I've put 1500 miles since with half of that towing 8000#'s.

Try entering "rear axle" in the search and see what comes up. There were some excvellent posts with step-by-step... .

I will say the same thing you have already heard. I used blue RTV. You can get gaskets from a NAPA or such and a friend uses them on his 44 and 60 in his jeep just because he has to change the fluid ver frequently with air locker. We just took the diff covers in with us to make sure they were the right gaskets. I think they cost $3-5 each. I think you are better off sticking with RTV.

I got this part munber Nappa(P18562)from somebody that had it posted some time ago. When I changed mine I used the black RTV and when we did my sons we used the gray RTV. His has never leaked but the first time I did mine with the gray after about a few thousand miles it was seeping not dripping. So I took it off and used the black this time 53000+ and still dry. Maybe I did not have it cleaned that good the first time.

Blue -black silicone work very well. As far as waiting I've never botherd to yet and no leaks ever!It could be luck.

Synthetic oils are a must in these hard working diffs. The brand is youre choice as well as weight. I've run syntec 75/90 in the last 3 trucks without any problems. In the hotter climates you may want the 85/140 If you are going to tow.

I run 2 bottles of whale-sperm or that stinky frition stuff in the rear diff and my diff works 100% with over 80k on it.

Thanks for the info guys. I did find out that the gasket is the same front and rear for the Dana 60 and 70.

Felpro RDS6095-1

The gaskets have been on all afternoon with no problem. Didnt have time to use anything else and wait for it to dry since I had it done at my brothers shop.
