I have a 2007 3500 6. 7L with AUTO trans. My work calls for a lot of slow speed or idle speed driving and the particulate filter plugs regularly and then the engine idles itself to about 1000 rpm. I have had the filter soot up and the dealer had to clean it by a method recommended by Dodge. I can tell when it is beginning to soot up by the engine automatically ideling up. The only solution I have found is to take the truck out and run it on the highway for about 50 miles and then it seems to be ok for a while. Is there any other solution to this problem?? I have heard that there is an update to the computer that will allow you to use the speed control in park to idle the engine up to keep the egt up to solve this problen. Is this true and if so what is the mod. number.

Yeah because with all the extra money burning holes in our pockets and all the extra time we have just wondering what to do with... taking a bunch of extra 50 miles runs just to keep some emissions control equipment from shutting down our trucks sounds exactly like what I wanna be doing.

Just a little friendly sarcasm.

People that takes it easy with 2007 will find out that it will do just that! If you will work this truck hard you will find out it does much better. It is not good to baby this truck.

Found the answer in the engine and transmission section of the rondtable. under NEW TSB. Describes why the engine idles up and that it is suppose to do that after prolonged ideling and low loads. Apparently what mine is doing is normal and don't have to drive it 50 miles to regenerate.
