:) well today is a special day for my truck, 500,000kms ( x 0. 62137 ) = 310,685 K. Still has original VP-44, injectors, transmission (auto) differential,water pump, powersteering/vacuum pump,starter, idler pulley, 53 block,airconditioning pump,pcm/ecm. The only items changed on the engine are apps,alternator and thermostat.

Front end original lower ball joints ,uppers were replaced at 350,000kms. Original tie rod ends, one sector shaft replaced while still in warrenty loose from factory.

Always used Rotella 15/40 fleetguar filters. no oil use between changes at 6000k

Fuel system ,only change was moving the lift pump back by tank. standard fuel lines ,and banjo bolts. Presently on lift pump #4.

Despite all the warnings I have had a K&N air filter since new. there has never been any sign of oil in the turbo. When valves were checked everything was super clean. When the oil filters are cut open and examined there is no foreign matter that appears under a 10 power glass. Oil from the filter and engine sample put through a paint filter , never had any sign of anything abnormal. Use the same examination I use on aircraft ,works for me after 25 years.

I use mmo and Howes Meaner in every tank of fuel, filters are fleetguar and changed every 10,000 k.

regards to all fellow tdr members.

For some reason the VP44s on '98s either died easy, or were very durable. The VP44 on HVAC's '98 (now Hoss') Red Rocket survived scores of blasts down the track and was still working fine when pulled to make way for the p-pump motor.

FourBarR you da man,

Care to tell us how you keep the vp-44 happy?

My cousin just bought a 2000 3500 and loves it.
Skydiver dont have all the answers. I only know what has worked for me. Was anold diesel mechanic for 15 years a long time ago. Been a aircraft maintenance engineer for 25 years. Here is what I did.

No mods to the engine to increase power.

Keepthe fuel clean, fuel filter changes at 12000k. fueling from the same truck stop with high fuel sales.

Always added Marvels Mystery oil and Howes Meaner to every tank.

I never snap the go pedal open or closed.

Drain fuel filter every week, check for water.

I have never used anything but #2 diesel fuel, no bio.

Thats about it, the truck has never refused to start,or ever been towed.

The mileage has always been 23 to 24 mpg us.

lift pump have been changed when pressure reaches 5 p. s. i. at wot.

Fuel lines are the same size as original and still has the banjo bolts. No money spent on larger lines, drilled out banjo bolts, draw straws, extra cooling ,added filters or different lift pumps.

Hope this helps, no gurantee it will work for anyone else.
