I got the approval Letter from the DOT/ NTSA.

I ordered the parts for the passenger side air bag switch.

I installed the switch myself, not hard the wiring was behind the bezel. (Pic are in the reader rigs for details. )

When to Lithia Dodge a Five Star Dodge Dealer in Grants Pass Oregon, and they told my wife that, They wouldn't reflash the PCM to activate the Passenger side air bag switch because they didn't want the reliability.

I know some members here had there passenger air bag switch installed, What Five Star Dodge dealer did or will do the PCM Reflashing?

Thanks

BP

if you have a letter from the NTSA, then you are accepting the responsiblity for it and it affects them in no way. they are pansies.

Why did you even bother contacting the NTSA? It is your truck, they have no business telling you what you can and cannot to do to YOUR truck... best bet is to try another dealer

Thats exactly why I refuse to have lights on my truck or get a license plate... bahstards can't tell me what to do. ;)

I had the same problem finding a dealer and gave up after the first couple attempts. No time for the hassle and it just hasn't been an issue.

Maybe point out to them that they are also assuming the liability for the safety of your children because they are not flashing the computer... you are forced to carry a child in the front seats and you Must be able to turn of the airbag for their safety.

The funny part is that it is not a "flash" - All you have to do is go in and activate it, That simple. I had no problem doing it here "if" someone "happened" to stop by... Though I have never actually did "it" ;)

Kinda a dont ask, dont tell thing. You never met or saw me :D

Easier that way

A cheaper and easier way to do it would be to take you letter to a used parts yard, buy one from them, or have them check over the line for who has one and put it in yourself. The wires are there, and it is only a four screw removal job. Only thing standing in your way would be the key, but they should have one of those as well and if they don't want to sell it I'm sure you could make a copy.

You should use that letter as a firestarter, that is about its significance IMO.

With it you cant even get a dealer to reprogram the computer.

The letter is something for the dealer to fill out that the install and the activation was done correctly.

I meant Activate. Was in an anger/ brain fart.

I guess I will be stopping by then. ;) I'll send you a PM.

Thanks. BP

Do you get any where near Portland with your truck? I installed the pass. switch and had the dealer in The Dalles flash the 'puter as the bone head service writer at the dealer here in town at the time gave me the same line you got. Altough he is gone and the new guy said he will do it. Be closer than driving out to see TG.

If you don't activate the switch the air bag light stays on all the time. I am not sure if the switch is operable at that point. You don't need a special key to work the switch so used parts from a junk yard would work. I have been through this knothole and my dealer said it would be his last also. No flash just a choice in the programming, takes seconds to do. It took them longer to pull the truck around and park it.

This feature MUST be turned on using a DRB3,it is a quick job :-laf The key is not neccessary anything will turn the switch.

oopppsss, guess I was giving them to much credit. I always just assumed you had to have a matching key for it as they are so over the top on everything else. You have to be certified to even remove the bags and resell them in a yard. I was going to put a switch in mine, but than discovered it was a great place to mount my xm radio... oh well
