I have to air care my truck in order to be able to reinsure it this week. I have a95 ,with 215 injectors,5 plate,16cm hx35,stage 2 afe,and a mufflerectomy, timing is at 16*. It throws smoke when i step on it so i was going to tighten up my afc before taking it in for the air test, but wasn't sure about moving the timing. Any experiance on the subject would be appriciated. Quentin:confused:

Tree huggers and rat kissers(formly rat huggers) what do you think? oooorrrrr

Better yet how about pump gurus or someone that had to do a smog test?

I'd crank the Star wheel towards the firewall as far as you can, then take the boost signal line off to the AFC. Maybe slide the plate all the way back towards the firewall. If that doesn't make it gutless and smokeless... . I don't know what will. I'd leave the timing alone.

Just curios being in the same neck of the woods, like to know if you had a catalytic converter on there as well and removed the same as well as the muffler?

Thx Bill

I have had my truck since new and it never came with a cat. Just a muffler, i hope they don't give me any hassle about no muffler.

I passed with flying colors! They did'nt even look underneith for a muffler the guy was to busy asking me about hardwood floors. I blocked the line to the afc and it still smoked when i punched it, so i tightened the star wheel till my arm was sore. Took it out and it puffed a little on the bottem end ,but nothing like it was before star ajustment. I think i might have to adjust my govener lever because it should run totally clean with the afc blocked. But i took my chances and without sliding my plate back. I was allowed 30. 00 opacity and came in at only 9. 43. I have no idea what opacity means.

I have my valet switch set up so my AFC is totally blocked. It still gives me some smoke till the turbo comes up... . but I also have 370's.

Congrats!

Josh

Opacity, as I understand it, is the measurement of smoke (particulates) out of the tailpipe as a percent of total exhaust volume. Having/ lacking a cat/ muffler shouldnt affect this at all. If they measure what is actually IN the exhaust stream, then everything can affect it, from exhaust housings to timing to injectors, GSK, fuel plate.

I had a late 91 that left a cloud that'd obliterate the car behind me, and it only had 29%. I'd hate to see something that failed the 40% ColoSpgs allowed a few years ago.

We're kinda lucky here in W Nv. They don't do the snap idle test. The just do the 'loaded' opacity. Like Josh said, the Valet swith will be in the stock power mode. :)

However, I've gotta get the Cat put back on. They do a visual & look for it. Gotta find a shop that'll mod it for 4". Already gutted it. :p
