Over the past two years I have been having problems with my 96'DCTD auto. 4X4 in cold wheather. Almost always wants to make second gear starts untill it warms up. Since I live in Western New York I had that problem yesterday. Once the truck got warm I shut it down then restarted and all is well.

As I was going down the pike the truck shifted down to drive from OD.

Then all Hell broke loose. The Tach. and speedo. went next and about 30 seconds later I smell overheating electric smoke. I tried to turn off the engine with NO luck. By now I had found a safe place to pull over and jumped out opened the hood, saw smoke comeing from the top of the shutdown solonoid and pulled the connection apart.

Three years ago I replaced th sol. and relay and thought it was the same problem. The truck starts and runs if you hold the sol. up after it pulls on but there is NO Tach.

Could the Gov. Press. Sol. have fried and taken out part of the PCM and there by overheating the Shutdown Sol. ??The relay checkedout OK.

What should I look at first??

Help ANYONE!!

 :(

Wish I could help, I have fried 2 pcm's and replaced a few gps... ... and I have had my tach go among other things. I guess the first thing I would do is make sure all your grounds are clean and tight, both at the battery and at the body/engine. Other than that I am not to helpful! Thought this one should be taken back to the top!
