This past weekend, I was towing my Jeep to the mountains for a little off roading when without any warning, my truck stopped shifting into overdrive. It was as if the OD/off button was stuck. I could only drive about 55-60mph as the rpm's were hovering around 2900 at that speed and the transmission was warm at 210. I stopped and found code 0700. I called my service manager and he told me it was a transmission module code and they would have to read the transmission module to see exactly what it was. I drove to the next dealership I came to and they told me it was a TPS. They didn't have one but the next dealership up the road 50 miles did. So I slowly drove to that dealership. I got the TPS, which was covered under warranty, and I changed it myself since they were backed up. That did not fix it. I went to the service writer and told her, she said they would look at it after a while. The service manager came to talk to me and after I told him what was happening he immediately knew the problem. He took the PCM plug off and sprayed it for moisture, put it back on and it worked perfect. He said most likely the TPS was not the problem. I did have the same problem again later in the trip, I took the plug off and sprayed it with WD40 and again it worked fine. There was a recall to replace these plugs a few years back, but it still has problems.

Sorry for the long story, but I figured I'd pass this on in case someone has the same problem they can just check the PCM plug. If I was out of warranty, that would have cost me over $400 to replace the TPS. The service manager said he had seen this a few times so he knew exactly what to do.

The dealership was Orangeburg Dodge Jeep off I-26 in South Carolina, in case anyone travels in that area.
