Archived PCM Question

In the summer of 2014 I installed a BD Exhaust Brake which has operated without a problem. Earlier this summer it would not shut off after stopping the engine. Unable to find any one while on the road so I waited until arrived back in San Antonio where I took it back to the BD dealer who installed it. They checked out the brake and it works but
not getting power from ECM (not sure about this). Took it to my Dodge dealer who said the PCM was at fault and they could fix it for $2700. Thought this was a little high and did not have it fixed.

If the PCM is bad is that all I have to purchase. I have been looking online and looking at pricing. Anyone in the San Antonio who could give me some recommendations. I already have $700 in labor chasing this problem. Almost ready to remove the exhaust brake.

Sorry about that. I thought it was already there since it is in my Profile. My hard drive died several months ago so everything has been up in the air. My truck is an 06 with auto transmission and no mods. It has 205,000 on it.

I would call BD direct and have them help you troubleshoot it. The taps on the ECM are more for knowing if its safe for the brake to come on. not necessarily power.

With an 06 it will be the whole ECU hence the price, and yes the ECU controls the EB to its parameters. Not power but probably a 5v circuit to activate\deactivate the EB.

You don't really need it to, you can operate it manually but you have to manually make sure the trans downshifts.

Everything has been checked out by a Dodge dealer. The unit was been checked out by the shop which installed the EB. This shop has been a BD dealer for over 25 years. Will the ECU cure the problem and is the PSM included? As you can tell, I am not a mechanic and have no knowledge of the workings. I really appreciated all the help.

Yes, the PCM is a sub section of the ECU. It is frequently referred to as PCM as it does everything, just semantics. If they say it is bad then they should know, hold them to it if that doesn't solve the problem.
