I'm attempting to install a torque converter locking device on my 97, 2500, auto, 4WD. I have read the various threads and I also have the service manual to identify the correct wires. I need to identify the wire from my PCM to the Torque Converter Solenoid, which is K54. It originates from the B11 pin in the PCM. It is an orange wire with a black stripe. The problem is there is another orange wire with a black stripe that originates from B20. Does the PCM just unplug or do you have to take off the entire face. I've looked and looked but I can't seem to get the B module unplugged. Also, do I need to disconnect my battery prior to messing around with the PCM? Need any advice I can get. Happy new year.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I have that printout. My problem is that I can't tell which wire is B11. All the wires of the B module are bundled together, with two orange wires, each with a black stripe, in the bundle. All the wires come out through the bottom of the module. I want to take the front of the PCM module off so I can tell which orange wire originates from the B11 pin. It looks like the modules should unplug, but so far I haven't had any luck.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,

I am not familiar with the 97 and the 47RE transmission but would think that the plug to the PCM should be removable. From the looks of the drawing, there must be clips on each side holding the plug in place.

If all else fails, unplug the control cable from the transmission and find the orange/black wire there.

Jim,

If you untape the wires on the backside of the connector you can pop off the cover and see the wires enter the back of the connector. there is a lock on the front side of the connector, so the wires won't start pulling out if you go at it from the back. I actually unlocked the pin terminal and brought the wire all the way out while i did the splice, i had more room to work. Then when you are done (solder/heat shrink) tape the harness back up. Howard's method will work easily as well, actually sounds easier.

Happy New Year,

Dave

Dave,

I unplugged the PCM, then I passed a straight pin through one of the orange wires, connected the straight pin to one lead of an OHM meter, then probed the the B11 pin with the other lead. I was then able to identify the correct wire. Again thanks for the reply, I'm almost finished, have to now connect to the rear differential speed sensor, but that's fairly straightforward, only two wires. I installed a D-celerator exhaust brake, that's the reason for this TC lockup device. I got the AutoTrans Torque Locker, hope it's worth the trouble.
