Question for bypass oil filter users

NV4500 to NV5600 Conversion. I am doing it!

Increasing the size of the exhaust housing will... ... increase spoolup time, decrease throttle response, make more bottom end and acceleration smoke, require more rpm and load to produce the same boost as a smaller housing, flow more exhaust gas, lower EGT when under load such as towing (better drive pressure), increase EGT under low throttle, operate more efficiently under higher loads, *allow heavier fueling while keeping EGT under control*.

Decreasing the size of the housing will: decrease spoolup time, increase throttle response, reduce low end and acceleration smoke, make more boost at lower rpm, flow less exhaust gas, increase EGT under high load (excessive drive pressure), decrease EGT under light load, operate more efficiently when under lighter loads such as driving around town and cruising down the highway.

(some of the above differences will be more pronounced than others, it really depends on how you drive)

Also, wastegated housings cost way more than non wastegated housings. About $450 for a gated 14cm vs about 150 for a non gated 16cm.

I have the gated 14 housing on my 35,it did increase spool up time noticeably. Response went down slightly. Smoke didnt increase enough to really notice on the low end,The good part is I lost almost 100 degrees EGT's on the top end on 5x5. I also lost 2-3 PSI boost cruising, and 3PSI WOT throttle, those are all good things. I knwo the turbine speed is down ,so is drive pressure,so the turbo will live longer with the bigger housing at high levels of fueling,IMO.

Just installed a PDR HX35 w/16CM non-wastegated Piersified. Love it. The spool up is a little longer but not noticeable. The biggest change I saw was about 200 degrees in the EGT's, the boost will not go over 34. On the HY35 the boost went sky high and I hit 1500 degrees with out even trying. Keep in mind that with stock injectors spool up will be longer. Forgot to mention I went to a 4" exhaust at the same time. Also Piers did his magic to this one. I am in love with this whole set up can't wait to get the trailer hooked up.
