Well I installed a PDR modified hx40 with thier 16cm wastegated housing (my stock hx35-12cm WG died  ) & wanted to post my results. I also have a few ?? for PDR hx40 users

for truck info see sig

1. Idle temp down 50* @ 250*F (all temp pre turbo)

2. 75 mph temp down 200-250*F @ 650-750*F

3. 75 mph temp pulling 26,000 lbs (35K lbs GCW) down 300*F+ :D

4. Around town boost @ 0 psi

5. WOT boost up from 35-36 psi to 37+ psi

6. boost at 75 mph down 10-15 psi @ 5-12psi

7. gained 2-3 mpg unladen (very happy) :D :D (towing mpg the same)

8. little quieter & deaper exaust note

9. over all power about the same, bit more TQ on the big end (2800+ rpm) though ;)

My ?? are

1. my truck shutters in 1st & 2nd gear (at 2900 rpm+) with no load unless I put the go petal on the floor (then I go real fast  not to mention burning my stock (for now) clutch)

will 370 inj. help the shutters (dont care about spooling faster it spool just fine)

also what type of mpg are you seeing with the PDR hx40+370 db's ??

2. I can still peg my EGT gauge (1500*F) at WOT (just a little slower)- is that normal??

All info will be appreciated

Thanks Zac

ZJones,

I am wondering why you hit that high of EGT's. I have the same plate and I hit 1150-to a little over 1200. I see that you have the K&N filter. Is it in the stock box or are you running the Scotty II??? I have been running the Scotty II for the last 3 or 4 months. . and I can tell you it makes a difference. When I was running the stock plate, I had the Scotty I and it also made a difference. But with some warranty issues with the Scotty I, Scott sent me one of the Scotty II as a replacement. There was so much difference between the 2 filter cases, I am seeing approx the same EGT's with my #11 plate as I did with the stock plate.

The numbers that you posted sounds great. . may have to look into one of those HX40...

Rick

RHARVEY yes the K&N is in the stock box (the box has the passenger side port cut fully open as well as the front & the back). I had post turbo temps of 1000* @ WOT stock fueling with 4" wide open exaust turbo to tail, i. e. no cat or muffler, & the K&N as my only upgrades. (is that high for stock?? I thought it was)

What type of EGT drop did you see with the Scotty II over stock??

From what I saw from the Scotty I to the Scotty is was about 150*. I dont have the numbers from the stock box to the Scotty I, I didn't have my pryo in before the Scotty install.

With the Scotty II, I am able to run 650* pre-turbo while pulling over 9k on flat ground. Since the new design draws off both the firewall hole and the fender hole. . it does keep it cooler...

Rick

I will probably get a ScottyII & see how much it helps. Can anyone

else please post thier results???

Also how much HP/TQ will I gain with 370db's (will the egt's be ok)? Will they help or hinder my mileage? I spoke with Al at TDR, & he said the 370's would help with the low load/high rpm shutters.

I now see why people buy the exaust brakes. Before the hx40 super I had decent eng. braking without an exaust brake after, I have NO and I mean NO braking effect.

I have also noticed lower water temps & a colder A/C!! . Oo.

This (IMHO) is a great turbo for any tow/haul ctd.

I remember when I was preaching the HX40-16CM for towing (FL60Cummins) and there were so many arguing about using the HX35-12CM:rolleyes:

I HIGHLY agree that the HX40-16cm is FAR superior to the stock piece of junk in ALL areas! !!;)

Extreme1 no I have not changed or checked my timing (was giong to when I killed my kdp but ran out of time). Will the timing

help my egt's? I know it will help the mileage but will I have headgasket problems? Where should I set it, 14. 5* or 15+*??

FL70CAT why whould anyone prefer the hx35-12cm over the PDR hx40-16cm?? Yes it does spool a little slower than stock but I have less smoke with the 40 than the 35, lower egt's, better mileage, lower water temp, ect. ect. ect. ?!!?

I take off (untrack) better than before as well. When I asked PDR about this they said that the CFM was the main differance between the 40 & the 35. So I may be getting a little (hmm, lot) less boost at the lower rpm's but the CFM & lower back pressure are making up for it. ? I guess

In every way you look at it my truck pulls better than it ever has, period. :D :p

I believe Cooker is right. Ted J was/is ?? a strong advocate of the 12cm housing and using gearing instead. He has an aux. trans on his truck and had told me by email that he never runs over 1200* pre turbo.

Either do I at 1/4 throttle!!!! LOL There is no dought that the PDR HX-40 is better in all areas if you are properly fueled for it.
