DTT: to Billet or not to Billet....

Made a lot of changes over the winter. I was previously at 513hp now at 550hp with nothing but air. Yep got 37 hp with just airflow improvements, no added fuel. The mods included a PDR HX50, PDR ported and o-ringed head, PDR camshaft and ported ATS manifold. With all these mods taking place at the same time it is hard to tell which one had the most affect but I must say that the HX50 is a major player:cool:

The HX50 is a real wild ride:D At my hometown elevation of 6000 ft it 's a little on the laggy side which is to be expected for a turbo of this size, but its definitely worth the wait because when this turbo "comes in" you better be pointed straight and be paying attention to whats in front of you:eek: It starts making boost (slowly) at 1200-1300 and once it gets to 20 psi at about 1900 rpm the needle on my boost gauge literally jumps to around 50 psi depending on the load or gear. The needle moves so fast its hard to watch:D

Dyno runs here

Cruising egt's are just slightly higher, maybe 50 deg. Towing a heavy load egt's can get a little hot if you don't keep the turbo spooled up. Running around empty (even when lead footing it) egt's are not a problem at all. I don't hit 1300 deg until somewhere over 95 mph WFO :D :D :D

R. ebel-

That's pretty incredible. Glad to hear it went so well. I was wondering if you did the cam and head install yourself.

You'll have to look me up if you are ever on this side of the hill - I'll pay for a ride in that sucker.

Excellent results Richard!

I thought that thing was a screamer before.

I'm gonna have to start adding power just to keep in your smoke. :D

So, the dyno was available Saturday after all?

I have a HX-50 also. You are right I have hit it and thought dang where is the turbo, then I catch up to the reason I tromped it. Then wave as I am going by. It is like that also about being holding on to the steering wheel in anticipation of taking off like a rocket ship. I have had to bark the turbo:{ because I have caught up to something in front of me faster than anticipated. ENJOY

PDR HX50

Joe D, I registered back in January... . will be there.

GiesJ, Yes I did the head and cam change myself. The head is just your basic R&R. The cam change is... ... shall we say a different experience, I have never used a sting to pull a lifter into its bore until now. Changing out the cam is little more challenging but not horrible by any means. There is just a lot of wrenching to get to it. The cam change is most easily done when the head is off the block.

Forrest, PDR HX35-16.
