A WHILE AGO I INSTALLED AN HX 40 TURBO, THIS WAS TO BE THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD. 125 MILES AFTER INSTALLATION I UNINSTALLED THE TURBO (AT 42PSI OF BOOST) THROUGH THE TAIL PIPE! ALONG WITH 1. 5 GAL OF MOTOR OIL AND THE WORST NOISE I HAVE EVER HEARD COMMING FROM AN ENGINE, EVER!!!! ( THE DOWN PIPE WITH 5 OR 6 HOLES IN IT FROM THE IMPELLER IS STILL ON DISPLAY AT BD'S PUMP SHOP. )THIS WAS MADE EVEN BETTER BY THE FACT THAT I HAD 5 GUYS RIDING WITH ME TO SEE HOW THE NEW TURBO WORKED. AT 3AM I FINALLY HAD THE STOCK TURBO REINSTALLED, AND HEARING THAT CUMMINS FIRE BACK UP AND IDLE WAS THE BEST SOUND I HAVE HEARD. CUZ I WAS'NT SURE IT WOULD RUN AGAIN AFTER THE NOISE THAT WAS HEARD. :D

I NOW HAVE 8,000 MILES ON PDR'S HYBRED TURBO. DURING THOSE MILES I HAVE BEEN AS HARD ON A TURBO AS I EVER HAVE. HE SAID TO TEST IT SO I TOOK IT TO HEART. I'VE DONE EVERY THING FROM PLAYING ON THE STREET, TO DRAG RACING AT THE STRIP. THE THROTTLE RESPONSE IS AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN STOCK AND MUCH BETTER LOW AND MID THAN THE HX40. I HAVE LOST EGT'S AT LEAST AS MUCH AS THE HX40. THE OTHER ADVANTAGE I HAVE FOUND IS THE COOL DOWN THE INSTANT YOU ARE OFF THE THROTTLE YOUR EGT'S DROP FAST AND COOL DOWN TIME IS TWICE AS QUICK AS STOCK. AS FAR AS INSTALL YOU KEEP YOUR EXHAUST HOUSING OF YOUR TURBO AND RETAIN SAME DOWN PIPE. IF YOU HAVE AN EXHAUST MOUNTED BRAKE YOU CAN KEEP THAT ALSO. ALL THINGS YOU LOSE OR CHANGE WITH THE HX40. ANYWAY SORRY ABOUT BEING LONG WINDED BUT I HAVEN'T FOUND A DOWN SIDE TO HYBRED TURBO. :)

J@NWC,

1st thing: All caps when typing is like YELLING!!! I had to plug my ears just to read your post! ;)

2nd: I can relate to your experiance. I also grenaded a HX40 and the sound coming out my 5" exhaust and Dual Stacks was HORRIBLE. I was sick to my stomach. Then reinstalled my Stock turbo and the Cummins purr was the best sound I have ever heard!!!:D :) :D :)

Keep testing and update your post. I will know tomorrow when I get my new BOMBED turbo to try again. I hope !!!

J@NWC:

Welcome to the TDR Website!

I want to thank you for the great report on your

experience with the HX-40. There seems to be

alot of the members that have experienced the

same thing with the HX-40. I also know that there

are some who like them too.

I also have an HX-40. Mine is still "intact" but did

not perform like I thought it would. I am still trying

to figure that out. By what you, Dave Perea, Bill K.

and others have said, Piers' "hybrid" HX-35 seems

to be the way to go! Of course I wouldn't expect

anything less from Piers!

Thanks again for the report!

I'll second that statement. The Modified HX-35 is the way to go. I have a thread in the24V section discussing this same thing. I have a 14cm housing coming to do more tests with, but so far I have nothing but praise for it.

I did'nt mean to YELL at you I hope no permenent damage was done;) . My typing skills stink so i make fewer mistakes in all caps. Besides this is one of those things that is worth YELLING about.

One major change I did between the HX-40 and the Hybred was having a mild port job done on the head. WITH THE STOCK TURBO I noticed a 3psi loss in boost (because more air gets in to the motor instead of being backed up as pressure/boost) . With the Hybred I'm seeing 40psi of boost. Also i did'nt mention in the first post I'm running a 16cm exhaust housing and one of Pier's insane fuel plates:D.

Thinking back to my first post or two I remember doing the same. As for typing skills I am still two fingered typest. One Suggestion to TDR. WE Need SPEEL Cheking!!

As for your post: no damage done except I still can't hear the wife complaining about the time I spend Logged in to TDR! :D

;)
