I know there are a lot of PDR40 users here, so I need some field reports. Right now I am trying to decide of a ksb-1 is worth the $600 premium over a PDR40.

The stock hx 40 has a deserved reputation for poor reliability, but what about a Piersified 40?

Who has grenaded a pdr40?

What are the psi limits of a pdr40?

Who has the most hp using just a pdr40? How much hp?

I am looking for an upgraded single that I can use down the road in a twins setup...

There are several "versions" of the HX-40 out there that live well. Don't exceed 40psi, have the "right part number" - which is up to who you buy it from (there are 20 different HX-40 part numbers in the catalog from Holset, the key is knowing or having tested and found out which one is the best).

From 350 to 500hp, the 40 is a good choice. Of course, there is always our new Jammer too. :)

I've been beating on my PDR40/16 for a few months now and I'm somewhere around 460 horsepower. Max boost with the stock boost elbow was 41psi. I put in an adjustable elbow and now max is 36psi. I'm happy with its performance. Keeps EGTs in check fairly well. I dont know what your elevation is but if you're over 4000' I'd look a B1 or variant if you want quick spool. With the 6spd it shouldnt be too laggy. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one again. Oo.

Thanks C4L. I am ober 6000 feet here in Cheyenne. Maybe I need to call that sicko Yardley to price check one of his 40s...

I've had mine on since March. Been happy with it. Base for twins. Ran a 14. 2 at Bandimere at 100 mph. Drag the camper around no sweat. Truck dynos well over 400hp. Make up your own mind. Opinions are like belly buttons, everybodies got one, most are different. ;)

I got one of the first Pier HX-40s. I now have ~35K on it. Before I drilled a hole between the side I was seeing 48 PSI at full throttle in 4th and 5th. I Dyno'd 503 HP with it. Steve (HebeRam) dyno'd 675 HP using NO2. My Pier's HX-40 has been great. It is back at pier's being check out right now and getting prepped for my Pier Twin set up:D

I think I may have the info you are looking for on the B1. I swapped out my PDR 40 for my B1KS yesterday and as I have posted on another site it flat out rocks the HX 40 everywhere!

Better Bottom end snap fasterspool up and lower EGT's. I lowered my EGT's at least 150 Degreese over the PDR40 hands down. Its a tougher turbo as well bigger shafts and bearings. I can't say enough about how well it works on my truck,.

I have had mine on for about 85K miles ... original was a non Piers unit [box stock] and about 10K ago I sent it to Piers to do his magic on it

just a note. . a manual rig will be a little more subject to barking during the shift if you on it hard but it has not deserved the reputation it has IMHO... I'm not easy on mine as anyone who knows me will attest

I will eventually be using it on a twin set up also

I ran Piers HX40 for about 25K miles at 48-50 psi on a 2001 H. O. It dynoed right at 500HP. Never had a turbo related problem. . head gaskets are a whole different story... . CJ

HEY WAIT!!! I Resemble that remark!!!! ;) :D :D :D

Well dang, my stock 40 has held up for 30k miles. I have always thought barkin the turbo sounded really cool. Maybe when I get my engine back together I will be able to send a few parts through the hood.

PDRhx40's are tough, mine has been through many dyno runs.

Also my hard daily driving, along with Drag and street racing.

On a regular basis I hit 42 psi.

Still spins like new.

Justin,

I have made 505 and 503 with my HX-40, and a best of 730 on the nitrous.

Boost has alwasy been right around 40.

It is a great street turbo, and it performs very well at the track.

I would advise you to not use the juice on it though. My first one took alot of shots before it went, the next two didn't take much at all. I was told not to use the nitrous though, but I went ahead and did it anyhow. There are alot of trucks out there with it as part of there twin setups too.

There are alot of good single turbo turbos out there though so good luck with whatever your choice is.
