Installed the PE Comp box on a Stock '01 3500 Saturday and on Level 5 (Sub Level 5) his EGT's go through roof with only 20 psi boost. He removed turbo, drilled and pluged hardline hole and now EGT's are managable, but boost goes over 35 psi WOT no load (level 4, sub level 3). This thing will probably hit over 40 psi on level 5, but will this cause the HY35 to go to Lunch?

His next mod's will be Bill's TC as his stock one is getting torchered:D

Max

according to my Holset manual, 44PSI is the limit of the HX and HY's.

that pressure limit is set by the actuator on the wastegate. it could blow it out with pressures above 44PSI.

It doesnt state what the housing is capable of.

use at your own risk. :D

Hmm thats good to know Max. I am ordering my comp today. I have the spring/turnbuckle method but Im am only seeing about 22 for boost. I would like to try to max my boost at 35-40 if I know how to figure it out.

Sky, I don't know if we did it right or not, but we removed his turbo--about 20 minutes, drilled and tapped hard line hole and installed 1/8" plug--totally eliminating waste gate accuaitor.

There is NO going back once this is Done!!!

He has the 35 psi gauge and it will peg it now.

I have the PE Comp and the HY35 turbo. I use the spring and wire method and have my boost set at a max of 32 psi. EGT's are under control, but then I can't run level 5 because the clutch slipped. I would not run the HY35 turbo much higher than that. It has to work real hard to make that kind of boost. I think that above 32 psi the HY35 is out of its efficiency range.

Stakeman. I am useing the spring you gave to Kat. (Thanks!) I am useing it with the trunbuckle. The most I see is about 22 boost. So I guess i need to stretch the spring more correct? How do you stretch that spring in there. Im 6'7" and my hands are huge and its tight in there, andy tips?

StakeMan, thats what I thought going into this, but hey its his truck, and he had one of the major diesel shops tell him that it was ok-also said the convertor would take it, cause its an '01???

Well its done now, so there is no changing it back--I just hope that if/when the turbo breaks it won't put parts into the engine.

No Sky

its the other way around. You want a stiffer spring to increase the boost .

If you have a lighter spring the wastgate will open earlier.

If it were pulled apart a little more wouldnt that create more tension, and make it harder to pull? I cant hardly pull it apart now at all.

I have a PE comp box I bought from DD, I keep mine on level 5 sub level 1 and the boost goes to 42lbs with My stock turbo and after 7-10 seconds the EGT's are around 1500 then I back down by then I'm doing 70+ MPH anyway, My next bomb is a larger turbo. Some of the guy's here are putting together a HX-40 in a 14cm housing wastegated. " that's what I want!"

pe comp on a stock trans is a disaster waiting to happen ... as far as boost , tell your buddy to drill a . 030 hole in his plug , it will delay the wastegat , with my stock elbow and the wastegate opening at 20psi i was still able to make over 32psi with the DD3's and my hot pe on level 2 .

but to much boost is not a good thing , i blew out my intake gasket a couple weeks ago , the one under the big flat plate . fixed it but still can't get over 32 psi with the wastegate wired shut , ever since i had the HX40 that went bad on my truck , it just hasn't been right ... . smokes alot more , more turbo lag and won't hold boost ... no leaks external , seems like to much leaking internal ...

lucky for dodge i'm my own warranty station ???

Sky, I use a 2' piece of #3 rebar to add tension. use the conection between the exhaust manifold and the turbo as the fulcrum. stretch the spring and take up the tension with your turnbuckle. you may have to use a shorter turnbuckle or find a heavier spring. :D
