i installed the PE4200 fuel pump about 3k miles ago thinking that this would be the one to end all my troubles... guess what. was under the hood the other day, looked at my FP guage on the test port and it says 13psi at idle. used to be about 22psi at idle. this was after the truck is warm and no other electrical load. it is a new glicerine filled guage that has been riding around on there for about 1500 miles, so i don't have any reason to doubt the readings, but will double check it to be sure. any ideas? this is my 5th pump of different design and setup in 10k miles:mad: :mad: needless to say i am getting a little frustrated:{ :{

do you have an inlet filter blockage ?... . check the inlet screen [if yours has one]

PE stated they didn't want a pre filter installed just an FYI

when did you last change your fuel filter

great thoughts, but i don't have a pre-filter and i am pretty careful where i get my diesel, and don't think that i should have an in tank problem. filter was changed about 8k miles ago.

There is an adjustment spring inside the pump..... Just remove the nut (I think it is right below the inlet port) and remove the spring. Measure it and then stretch it about 1/4 inch. Put it back together and check the FP. If it is still too low stretch the spring a little more. Be careful though a little length goes a long way.

Do as Doug said. The same thing happened to me the pressure dropped to about 15 psi i pulled the spring & stretched it about a 1/4 inch & now its back to 22 & has stayed there. Be ready to take a diesel fuel shower when you pull the plug out of the pump :D . kurt.

pressure at idle

You guys get 22 psi at idle? I just checked mine and I get 12psi. Ther service manual says anything above 10 psi is okay. What gives?

Thanks

are you running the stock pump? it only makes about 10psi at idle, which is all that is required for a stock engine. but beware, the stock fuel pump will go bad and drop pressure on ya, which runs the risk of injector pump failure cause it can't get enough fuel to lube it properly. those of us with aftermarket fuel systems usually run in the teens or low 20's of fuel pressure because most of use have engine modifications that require more fuel. hope this answers ya.
