Was washing my pickup today and the paint started to peal in a small spot on the side of the box. Is this common with these pickups? Anyway to stop it before it gets worse?

Hi I am assuming from your photo gallery that your truck is white in color. I have had a couple of friends with white chrysler vehicles not just trucks, with the paint peeling off. I did a search on this some time ago on the internet and there is information about it. It is a common problem with older dodge vehicles with white paint, not just trucks. I cant remember if it was bad paint or primer. From what I recall I think the only fix was to strip and repaint the vehicle.

All vehicle manufacturers have been using waterbase paint in the US for several years now. EPA regulations. In time, and with plenty of sunshine, all colors will eventually lose grip with the primer and peel off. This is why the stripping mentioned above is necessary.

I have a customer that is also a TDR member is truck happens to be white and most of the paint has peeled of his hood and other places.

On my truck I had paint missing where low limbs had taken paint off the roof some mite have been paint peeling off. I had one big chip(peel) on hood and few on frame at windshield.

This year I had the hood, roof, left fender, left door and tailgate painted next year I mite have right fender and door painted (side of bed holding up good).

The body shop used acrylic enamel paint.

My '96 is grey and white. The white is holding up fine but the grey is starting to peel just about everywhere. The paint got real dull before it started to peel.

I have the silver clearcoat and the clearcoat has started peeling like crazy, I am going to try a little experiment this fall after my business slows down and I will post the results.
