recently I have noticed the front tires wearing on the middle rib on my OEM Michelins. pressure is always (?) within a pound or two of the recommended 50#'s.



this is my third pair of tires on the front since my truck was new and I have never noticed this before. The tire dealer mentioned he has seen this on RAMs before but that there is nothing wrong with the tires or suspension.



anyone ever hear or see this before?
 
The only funny wear I see on most Dodges is the Inside of the Front tires seem to wear out very fast.



If the center is wearing out, then, even if you are at the "Correct" pressure,, your pressure is still to high.



Ask around, or search to see about what pressures people are runing in their tires... I don't check Mine to often, not nearly often enough,, I just kinda give 'em a look over,, although I need to add air to the fronts because the edges are wearing and not the middle,, but could be the way I drive... .

Let me clarify:

the wear in the middle is intermittent, as if the tire is bouncing up and down only hitting certain plateaus of the middle tread.



the steering is not affected nor are there any vibrations in the steering wheel.

My Family owned a '98 Lincoln Navigator, and the steering wheel never "shuddered" or anything of the like,, and the ride was almost always smooth,, but at 50K miles with some Michelin A/T LTX tires, the fronts were all mesed up. They were lumpy, and were wearing on the edges.



The truck ('98 Nav. )had horendous shocks on the front,, from the outside you could see the tires wiggle only slightly up and down.

The tires only had 32PSI in them. (recomended presure)



If your tires are doing the same thing,, or just wearing in the middle,, you could have a worn shock(s) and with 50PSI the tires will get larger in the middle of the tread for a millesecond while the weight of the vehicle lesens on that tires. . which would cause excessive wear in the center tread.



Something probly worn? Maybe not worn out, but just worn,, you say you are on your third set of rubber, I am on my 3rd or 4th set of rubbers on the front. I still have the original shocks,, but I have been needing shocks for a while now. My tires are all screwed up,, they have that "wave" in them,, All the little tread rubber blocks are canted to one side. (the back).



Any little mis-adjustment,, worn shocks,, too much pressure, not enough pressure, a worn bushing etc. etc. will show up quickly with the 1,200 pound Cummins riding up front. Very quickly,, even just slightly different tire pressures will make it feel like your alignment is off.

Everytime I go to NTB to have my tires rotated they comment on the funny wear pattern of the rear tires, sort of a stair step pattern. Don't suppose it could be a little extra torque?:D
 
thanks Merrick. Your Navigator description sounds like an exact match. The plan is new shocks, front tires rotated to the back and new rubber up front. And an eagle eye for future anomalies.
 
I have the same wear patern on mine. I always thought that the pressure needed to be too high to get a patern like that, but why only every other block? I know that this sounds bad, but I haven't even checked the pressure of the tires in a year. If they are over inflated, they can only leak down right? Other than that, I have been very pleased with the OEM's.
