Anyone know what to do with the chrome plastic that is on the black trim on '95 model trucks. Mine is coming off, and looks bad.

Thank,

Keith

My 97 has been doing the same thing. The uv rays of the sun just love to destroy plastic. I have used 2001 plastic treatment on the truck since it was new but it did nothing for the trim life. The only thing I know to take care of it is to purchase new trim or strip down the old stuff and apply self stick chrome tape. You can find it at some auto parts stores or a good body shop. Coat it with clear poloyurethane so it weathers good. If anyone else has a better answere, I'm all eyes. :{

I would probably be compelled to just sand off the "chrome" and paint it gloss black with a specific plastic paint like Krylon Fusion.

Me too -

Don't know how one would sand it off as it's sort of a tough plastic. If I knew of a way to get the cheezwizz plastic chrome stuff out I'd try a big fat permanent black magic marker on it. :)

The best fix is probably to replace the molding with the '98 variety which has no "chrome" in it. Joe D. did this on his '97 while he had some BD repaired. Check the article he wrote about it in the TDR mag - Issue 42, p. 158. Looks nice.
