anyone had the paint peel off there trucks yet. dodge finaly paid to have mine fix at 90,000 miles 6 years it was a lot of work though to get them to do it.

Yes, the driftwood centerband on the drivers side is blistering and flaking off in spots. I just noticed it this spring when I went to the car wash. Since then more and more blisters keep appearing and flaking off. I'm afraid to wash my truck anymore. I have not pursued this with Dodge, figured I'm SOL since the 3/36 warranty is up and the corrosion part of the remaining warranty stating only covers body panels which have rusted through. I found nothing in the warranty book about paint. I just figured I have no case and have been looking into getting either the damaged areas fixed or repainting the whole truck.

What process did you have to go through to get Dodge to cover it??? Was the truck still under warranty when you first started the process. I would like all the details. I do not doubt it was an uphill fight the whole way. I've heard going head to head with car makers over poor paint jobs is long and difficult and in most cases futile.

PLEASE, NEED MORE INFO

My center band of Driftwood is pealing and blistering BAD. Looks worse than a teenager with zits. How did you get Dodge to pay on a repaint. Please either post or email me some info. Although my warranty is long gone, I have been to the local dealership a few years back. They told me the best they would do was a $300 credit to "assist" with repainting the vehicle. I enough of us got together and yell loud enough, maybe they will be like the Chevy folks did a few years back, and offer to repaint there crappy job. Anyone else with this problem, make it heard.

peeling paint

Dodge will give all the runaround in the world. They did it to me I have this web address http://peelingpaint.homestead.com/ you have some research to if the truck or car you have is under 7 year I believe you have a good chance. THE THING THERE NEW THE PROBLEM IN THE MED 1980'S THIS PAINT DEAL IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT THE NEW OF THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY SOLD YOU THE THE TRUCK LOT OG PEOPLE I MEEN LOTS ARE WINING IN COURT OUT OF COURT AND IN CLASS ACTION SUETS.

CRYSLER DOES NOT WHAT ANYONE TO KNOW. i'LL LOOK UP SOME WEB PAGES AND TRY TO POST SOON. OH BY THE WAY I DID OFFER TO PAY 200 HUNDRED AND THEY PAID THE REST. To see if your truck has the same thing as thousands do . Take a piece of masking take rub it on where the paint is falling off and quickly remove it you may find a suprise.

peeling paint

1986–97 cars, minivans, vans, sport-utilities, and trucks. Problem: Defective automatic transmissions and delaminated paint that turns a chalky colour and then peels off. Warranty coverage: DaimlerChrysler Canada and its USA parent, have offered full or partial refunds up to 7 years/100,000 miles (160,000 km). Canadian owners with vehicles that exceed the above parametres are receiving offers of 50% refunds on dealer estimates that appear unreasonably high. American owners are systematically refused any additional compensation.

July 2000 info from Alberta CLOG (Chrysler Lemon Owners Group) indicates Chrysler reps are offering CLOG members 50% of repainting costs on jobs that are estimated by dealers to cost $2,000 to $5,000 (Canadian). Independent garages claim they can repaint the cars and vans for half as much. As a result of this impasse, Alberta CLOG has rescheduled dealer "lemon" parades for the summer.

Chrysler offers usually only come after being referred by CLOG or a small claims court action is threatened or commenced. British Columbia, Canada residents who wish to join a paint class action covering 1986-97 models should contact Joe Fiorante at 1-800-689-2322, or email him at -- email address removed --

Paint and Mfg Local

Do you guys with paint problems know where your trucks were made? I wonder if the vehicles that come from mexico have paint problems? The reason being is the US has very stiff EPA regs regarding paints and VOC's. My '97 was assembled in Mexico and so far (fingers crossed) no problems... and I do have the driftwood color.

PEELING PAINT

THE SUN IS THE THE CAUSE OF THE PEELING . AS FAR AS WHERE THE TRUCK IS MADE I'M NOT SURE IT MATTERS CRYSLER WHENT FROM A THREE STAGE PAINT TO A TWO STAGE PAINT. TO SAVE $15. OO A CAR THEY ARE CHEAP ALL THE WAY AROUND YOUR TRUCK MOST PROBIBLY HAS THE SAME PAINT AS MINE. IF THERE IS A PPG PAINT CODE ON THE TRUCK YOU WILL KNOW FOR SURE. THEY HAVE BEEN USEING THIS SINCE THE MID 80'S. TELL A FRIEND. cOME ON PEOPLE WE ALL KNOW THE CRYSLER IS A CORNER CUTING COMPANY. LOOK AT FRONT BREAK SHOES,TRANS. TRANS LINES,ANTILOC BREAKS OF WHICH ALMOST KILL ME AND MY DAUTER , THROTLE CABLE FRAYING, HELL THE DEALER TRYED TO MAKE ME PAY FOR THE TRANY LINES WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL. .

BACK TO THE PAINT IF YOUR TRUCK IS NOT IN THE SUN THAT MUCH IT WILL NOT PEEL AS SOON. IT IS NOT JUST CRYSLER THAT HAVE THIS PROBLE CHEVY AND FORD DID TO I THINK HONDA HAD SOME TOO . IT IS CALLED" DELAMINATION"

I have a 97 that was made in Mexico and has 171,000 and the roof just started to peel. I took a look a the hood the the hood also shows the early signs that it peel. The rest of the truck doesn't show the signs as the hood.

Is there any hope that the local dealer will do something about this??????
