A while back I remember reading a thread that was talking about the amount of oil used in the NV4500, the types of oil people used in the NV4500, and etc. ... ...

Well someone posted a picture of a bottle of Pensoil Syncromesh that I just recently saw last week or the week before in Auto Zone:rolleyes:

I was wondering if someone could tell me the requirements for oil that is to be used in our NV4500s so I could see if this Pensoil meets it? Because with 163,000 miles I'm sure mine could use it, but I couldn't afford to at the time I replaced my clutch.

Thanks

Basically the requirements are that it be Synthetic API GL- 4 rated (Castrol Syntorc). The problem with most of the API GL-5 rated stuff is the additives that can eat up your syncros. Thats what you need to check on. One that does fit the requirements is Royal Purple Maxgear 75w90. It IS GL4 and GL5 rated . Safe on soft metals. Easy on your wallet. NAPA stocks it down here.

How do you know if your truck has brass syncro rings? My 95 has a fiber lining on the syncro rings. How could GL-5 lub hurt them? I thought it only attacked brass.
