People blocking out their license plates in photos

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

What a breakfast.

Calling All Corvette (c4) Experts!!

I just have to ask this question. Why do people, when they take pictures of there cars, bike, trailers, etc. blackout the numbers/letters? This just seems so ridiculous to me. Do you block out your plate numbers when driving around town? Are you worried that someone on the TDR/WEB is going to look at your plate number and find out who you are and come hunt you down?

Just a thought of the day.

I guess that depends on how many folks you have Pi$$ed off in the forums :-laf :-laf :-laf

Seriously, I dont get it either... .

In my situation, non on this site yet. But on the road I have managed to P. O. a few and none have shown up at my door step or had the police come in their place. :p

I do it for security reasons and I don't see why it should bother you, it's only a license plate. Sure someone on the road could track me down if they wanted but that's not why I cover it up.

What type of security reasons?

I wouldn't say that it bothers me, it just seems strange that you would cover something up to the internet public that would be the same public that drives down the road, but then again in actuality the people on here could be more trust worthy than that of the general public, maybe.

So I just trying to get a idea of what others think and is there a valid reason for this being that I could not be thinking of a valid reason.

Also on your personal website you forgot to cover up your colorado plate? :)

I listed a late model motor home on e-Bay for a friend who was experiencing serious health problems. In one of the pictures, the license plate was visible. Within a day, someone had apparently traced the plate, and was calling my ill friend, trying to make a low-ball deal off e-Bay... . the very thing I was trying to avoid!

In answer to reasons why...

The license plate is issued by the state government and connected to all the other data bases. From one plate number, you can leap all the way to the owner and then to driving record and information including SSN. Why would you willingly not secure that information.

Tell me you've had a good experience standing in line at the DOL or DMV. Would you actually trust those people. They are the ones in charge of the data.

Much of this site is also open to the public. I might not mind sharing personal info with people I've gotten to know from the site but I sure wouldn't give it to everyone and certainly not to the public.

Take the pictures in the Off-Road section of everyones cool toys. How hard would it be to pick out the ATV I wanted and go looking.
