I have a 2016, 2500, Cummins with approximately 54,000 miles. I am traveling back to the Northwest from Arizona, and am pulling my travel trailer. The past couple of days while pulling a grade, around 2400 rpm's, the Perform Service light is popping on, stays on a second or two and turns off. This happened again yesterday while backing my travel trailer into a spot in the RV park. I would appreciate any input on the potential problem.

The message you are receiving is for the CCV (crankcase ventilation) filter replacement. It is not required until 67,500 miles, although some have reported instances similar to yours with less miles.

Don’t sweat it......and enjoy the rest of your trip.

Thanks for the quick reply, only about 600 miles from the house, so it can wait another day or two!

Question, I changed mine at 60k then a month later I had warranty work done and I asked the dealer to reset mine so it does not come on at 67,500. How do I know if it's been reset other than waiting? I am at 65k now.

I don’t think there’s a way to see how many miles left til servicing the CCV. I’ve never seen it referenced on a scan tool or in the evic. It wouldn’t surprise me if you got the message. It took me 3-4 attempts to remove it when I changed mine.

I have a question on mine. To bring up to speed, 2014 2500 112k. I received a "perform service" light around 96k I think. Bought the truck at 94k. I replaced the filter and tried to reset the note a few times and it comes and goes. It only happens when I get on it a little bit or towing up a grade. Again, comes and goes and that's the times it does. What could it be? Truck is tuned and deleted. I'm thinking computer malfunction due to tuner but idk

I waited almost 6k miles before I changed my CCV filter. 10-15 minute job. I drank beer before , during and after and I still swapped it out without screwing it up.

Ive got the same issue on an 07.5 that's tuned. Now mine is on all the time. Ive replaced the filter and reset the indicator. no luck

Well, now my turbo boost comes and goes and the message seems to come and go with it sometimes as if it's hand in hand

Im talking with my tuner right now. They are asking about fuel rail pressure. A fueling issue would also cause a turbo to spool up and down. Ill let you know what I find out.

Hmmm... I get the "Perform Service" popping up intermittently on my display too. Mine's a 2016 and is stock (not tuned) I am at 54,700 miles. I have only noticed it twice in the last few months when I am accelerating hard on a highway entrance ramp. Changes back to my normal display once I let off the pedal, and doesn't come back again. No error code or stored messages.

What tuner are you running?

I don't know for certain, but it seems as if the minder is both time based and pressure.

Maybe Bob can elaborate on this.

Don’t let the Dealer sucker you into any type of cleaning. Filter ONLY.
We have a 2017 2500 Ram Cummins with “perform Service” message. There is no explanation in the dash, and very little in the glove box manual. I’m told that it relates to a ccv filter and removing and soaking manifold. The filter I understand, but is the cleaning really necessary. They want $1300 for this.

comrade - what cummins12v98 said. genos also sells the parts to do this yourself....and there are many you tube videos also. the egr valve needs cleaning usually on the second ccv change interval. cheers!

Simply change the filter and reset message! Carry on.
