Anybody have input of the effects that performance mods have on controllability during offroading? I'm talking about light throttle/no throttle operation while crossing obstacles. I found out that you don't just hit the brake while crossing a ditch because the governor will increase the fuel to keep the idle rpm up. I had to learn to depress the clutch and then feather it back in to avoid bounding through the ditch. In addition, my ETH/DEE torque will spin the tires in slow going. Do the performance mods like injectors and boxes make this situation worse? I see a lot of threads about towing and racing but not too much about actual off road use. I bought my truck because it will get me 400 miles down the highway in comfort and still get me to my hunting areas. It just excels at this.

Ah you don't need the info as your wife will not give it back to ya when you get home :)

most mods won't affect the of idle issue you refer to unless you go to the very high HP and totally lose the bottom end. . the off idle issue is all governed by the 'puter

One thing you may notice is that the throttle gets more and more touchy the higher the hp gets. At least on my truck it has. Kind of anoying on bumpy roads. But you get used to it.

I suggest a stronger crossmember for the skid plate under the transfer case. Also make a deflector plate for the front diff cover so if you hit a big rock you won't collapse it into the gears.

My hunting experience, so far, has been that the engine is just fine stock for four wheeling.

The problem that I ran into, is the sidewalls on the Michelin LT265/70R17E. I had to replace two tires due to sidewall damage, caused by rocks. That's from hunting 2 or 3 times a week from October to the end of February.

For this upcoming season, I bought a set of rims to mount off-road tires on. They will go on in October and come off in February. Kind of like snow tires.

Joe, I must of lost track of the number of times, I came out on the pavement, off of that dirt road across from your house.
