Howdy Ya'll. I got a question about what the dealer did to my truck. The accessories guy says they put in an EDGE Performance Kit. The box has S. P. E. E. D. written on it, and he put in 275 injectors. He also played with the wastegate. My question is what does the little box do? I can't find it on the internet. Would really like to know, so I can update my profile. I got the DYNO for it, so I know it gave some power. ALso if I can get some ideas on what's next for upgrades.

Thanks!

Performance Upgrade

Yup, dealer did it. Took the truck off the lot, asked what I wanted and installed everything before I left. Took about 5 hours.

Yeah, they said the Injectors and fuel pump weren't covered anymore, but were covered by the parts manufacturer.

Hope you never have on going truck problems cause the dealer can use your upgrades as an excuse and void warranty on the whole truck. Never ever take your truck to a different dealer as they will void your warranty and there is nothing you can do about it.

Dealer upgrade

When I got my first diesel a 96 ram the dealer / salesman would send you to Cummins for a new fuel plate and write it off as warranty work.

So when I got my 2001. 5 I got it from the same salesman and I ask for a free upgrade and he said he got in to much ((hot water)) from Dodge because ALL of his trucks needed warranty work from Cummins :p

Some dealers are OK some are NOT

upgrade

deadbus, as you can tell, some of us were surprised that a stealer would actually do the upgrade for you. most stealers look for upgrades at any opportunity to void the warranty. i hadn't heard there were any dealers actually PERFORMING the upgrades on a new truck. THAT SAID, hurry and get gauges on your truck. EGT and fuel pressure as a minimum. you may be approaching the melt down zone on egt, depending on the box they put in, which i suspect is an Edge EZ. does the fueling box have 3 settings by changing a "jumper" inside the box? anyway, get the gauges in pronto. fuel pressure will need to be monitored to be sure the vp44 is getting the fuel it needs, and to let you know if the lift (transfer) pump should die :(

oops #2

forgot to say welcome to the TDR. enjoy the truck... awsome vehicle. not to pry, if you don't mind, would you reveal what the dealer charged for the upgrade? btw, also, good choice in music. lots of my friends actually don't like george and merle and willie and... ... . they run 24 hours a day in my shop:D

redneckdr-

"stealer" wanted $1999 for computer, injectors, K&N, and mods to waste gate. I suspect you may beright about the EZ, because I got a little piece of paper telling me that I can change the settings of the computer via jumpers. Guages were another $300. I don't know if I got gypped or what. This is my first diesel. My old truck was a '95 V-10. I'm thinking about swapping over to SPA guages to get the boost/EGT and Fuel/??? combos. Three pillar is to high for me to read while driving (Guages are at wrong angle). ANy rec on last guage?

BTW Thanks to all who repsonded. There was some good info in what I got back, some lessons learned.

yeah 1999 is a bit steep for what it sounds like you got, but the cool part is you got a good dealer. any problems, and it sounds like they will look right past any mods. as far as the gauges go, the SPA digitals are the best man. you will be way happy if you go that route. i have the combo boost/pyro, and then fuel pressure/oil temp. the gauges have progamable over temp and low pressure warning lights and can even be used to trigger outside lights or warning buzzer. very cool

upgrade

deadbus, if you're happy with the deal, that's all that matters. that's a nice combination, if it is an EZ. EZ + 275's plus the boost mod= pulling machine!!:D :D
