Anyone know where I could help my father n law find a "SHOP-MANUAL" that deals with the fuel injection pumps for the Perkin's 100 series diesels???... The shop manuals that are out there don't have information on the pump! (Nice huh... they leave out one of the most important sections... go figure!)

He had to change the seals in the fuel injection pump (O-Rings) and now the motor won't start... could the timing have gone haywire??? They primed the system... that's not the problem... air is gone! Don't have a clue... any help would be appreciated!!! Any of you DIESEL experts who have any knowledge on this subject... would love to chat>>>>>>>>>

Thanks,

The Frankster:eek:

You might have to go to Bosch for pump info. Unless the pump was removed and reinstalled with the gear in a place where it wasn't beforehand the timing should be fine. Just one tooth off will throw it off considerably

I assume you bled fuel at the injectors? That pump also has a couple of bleed screws right on the pump that also need to be purged of air.

I have a 4 cylinder 100 series in a M-F tractor, whenever air gets in the system it takes considerable bleeding to get it going again, sometimes to the point of running the battery down.

Like yours the only thing my shop manual says about the IP is to take it to a Bosch certified shop.

You know I kinda hate to admit to the following, but it's usually much faster to hook up a strap and just pull a tractor with one of these engines.

Of course it has to have a manual trans, not hydro-static.

I like to do everything right, hit the stater and have things work as they should, however, I've got a Massy-Ferguson that has to have the strap used on it to start after a fuel filter change.

Thanks so far guys... I guess we'll get a BOSCH pump manual??? System is bled to the max... it acts as though the timing is off. Thing is... this particular pump would be darn near impossible to throw off timing as it works off a cam and doesn't appear to be able to thrown off. (Can only go back on one-way!)

perkins

M. F. tractors most of the perkins I have seen have CAV pumps on them (low performance but last a long time)

Where I work we have 3 4 cylinder Perkins engines and all 3 have Lucas pumps on them. Personally I don't like them. If the perkins engines had a better fuel system they would be a very good engine.
