Aloha just wondering if anyone had any input on this Spay On Bedliner??Was thinking of having Sprayed soon,Help Me Make a Decsion Pros,Cons. . Mahalo
 
I was almost 100% sure I was going to go with Perma-Tech. . But then I read that if you spill just about any kind of chemical on it (like gas) it bleaches almost immediately and there's really no fixing it.



So now I am leaning towards Line-X.
 
I got a Line-X. If I have any problems with it, I can get it repaired at ANY Line-X dealer in the country. I just have to keep my paperwork.

I have the Line-X and I am happy with it. It was applied uniformly and it has held up fine. I saw a truck that had either Rhino lining or Perma-tech and the quality was not even close to Line-X. It seemed thicker in some area's and thinner in others (which could be blamed on the person applying but it looked lousy. ) Also it was glosssy looking and just did not have the "feel" of Line-X.



Just for comparison, the new fire engine we have at work has Line-X sprayed in all the compartments, and after a year and a half it has shown no signs of wear which is admirable considering it's exposed to gas, bar&chain oil, hydraulic oil, regular oil, and firefighting foam on a constant basis.

I think the quality of the liner varies dealer to dealer. I had my 98 and 03 done in different places and the job on the 03 is much better than on the 98. I have RhinoLiner.

I'm with Dean on this issue.

My green RhinoLiner was applied 7 plus years ago and still looks as good as new, except for a little sun fade. I haul mostly dirt and yard debris and have been very happy with Rhino.



RhinoLiner, Line-X, and perhaps a few other spray-on materials are probably the best around. However they must be applied by guys who know what they are doing. We all know how easy it is for a person who is inexperienced or uncaring to really screw-up a good product.



If I were going to haul lots of heavy rock, concrete block, manhole covers or other material which could dent a pickup bed I would probably use one of the slide-in plastic liners. They seem to prevent dents better than the spray-in liners.
 
Aloha everyone and thanks for the replies. Ill go and see what kind of job they do,Then Ill make my dcision. Spray on liners arevery exspensive here. 425. 00 for permatec,450. 00 Rhino,Ultimate Linings 650. 00,Linex 450. 00 plus 100. 00 to do the rails of the bed. Told the Guy------. Aloha
 
I have a Permatech liner in my bed and on my rocker panels and wheel wells. I've spilled lots of fluids on it (oil, diesel, gas, fuel conditioner) and have had no discoloration at all. I've been very happy with the Permatech liner. As said above the installer is the #1 consideration. I've had a Rhino liner in a previous truck and it was as durable as the permatech but definately had a color fading problem that the permatech has not had. I've also seen and had friends with line-x liners. Comparing the three the Rhino liner is the softest material, gouges the easiest and fades the most. The line-x is the hardest material, doesn't seem to have the fade problem, stuff slides around on it easier. The Permatech is right between the two - stuff doesn't slide very easy, it's easier to gouge than the line-x but not as easy as the Rhino, and it doesn't fade. Another consideration is that with the Permatech you can get custom colors that go all the way through the material, not just a top coat like the rhino - not sure about line-x on that one.

What prices are people seeing for Permatex? There is only one shop in Washington State that applies it and they quoted $600 something (I think that was for the colored variety) :(

I paid $390 for Linex a month ago on a 8' bed under the rail (In Arkansas). Went with Deezee for bed rails. I had Linex on a previous truck, I like it. My new trucks liner was applied by a very experenced installer and it has a rough texture, so things don't slide around. On my first truck with the Linex the installer did a good job but the surface texture was not as rough and items would slide more. I think all of the top names are good products, in my research I found that Linex was the industry leader and their product was more consistent. But like everyone has mentioned the installer can make the biggest difference. Good luck.



PS - Another good thing about Linex is it will make the bed of your truck bullet proof so if your in a gun battle just jump into the bed and fire away. :-laf

Perma-tech

I have to second Steve's input on the perma-tech liner. I have spilled fork oil, chain lube, premix, gas, you name it and no discoloration at all. I have had line-x and perma-tech and perma-tech will be going in my 03 next week. Price for black over the rail for a short bed was $450 here in OKC.
 
Check your area for "AMERAGUARD". Or check www.ameraguard.com. In my opionon they are night and day compared to other big name liners. Some spray in companies take your truck bed down to bare metal. Which is not necessary. Check out the website and compare to others first. Also, my ameraguard dealer, the owner did the work himself vs. hiring minimum wage help to spray in your liner. No brainer to me!!

How is the color fading with your Ameraguard? In all 3 of my dodge trucks, I've had ameraguards, only due to their durability. But they sure do seem to Fade pretty quick. I had my 1/2 ton for just under 3 months and it already faded.



I've had some pretty bad luck with Linex and Rhino, so I just chose to stay with the ameraguard.





We finally got a Permatec dealer in Denver, so the wife and I are going to have him spray her liner in and see how it is. Also, due the fact of how bad my ameraguard has faded, I am throwing around the idea of having the Permatec liner sprayed over mine. Had anyone ever had a spray in liner either removed, or sprayed over? How is the reliablilty afterwards?

Both places I had the RhinoLiner installed advised me to get the black because the colors fade faster and it costs $100 more. My black liner on my 98 still looked pretty good when I sold it in November. I got the over the rail treatment this trip and it came out great. I would insist on seeing some of the shop's work before I had any liner put on. Some of them are real butchers. I would tend to go to a place that is also a good body shop. Make sure they take off the access panel for the tail gate and do it separately. Believe it or not some of the don't. I see no advantage in not taking the paint off before applying the liner. If it had to be taken out, it would ruin whatever was under it. Body shops have a heck of a time repairing vehicles with the sprayed in liners.

I haven't had mine long enough to determine any fade. They do disclaim over time it will fade some. However, in my research, i have seen several up to 3 years old that always sat outside that was barely faded at all. Ameraguard, unlike others, do remove all bolts, tailgate panel and tie downs. Others i have seen spray right over the top. All of them are going to fade somewhat. If fading is an issue get a drop in. Why would you ever had it taken out in the first place? I have seen some pretty shody jobs from others, and if all the paint is stripped and the coating is thin in some spots or not sprayed at all like under rails it will rust! Also check on the bottom of tailgate where most rust will start and see how much of it is covered?
 
I have Line-X in my current truck and my general feeling is. . .



Benefits:

Great durability

Resists scuffing, scratching quite well

Good "traction" prevents sliding

Looks great

Minimal deterioration & fading





Downside:

Hard to clean up grease & oils, really gotta scrub like mad.

Hard to clean period

Too thin, poor resistance to dents





I am hoping Permatex is considerably thicker and more resistant to denting.

Strouds in Tacoma, quoted me $480 under rail, and $75 extra for over the rail. They will put it on as thick or thin as I want. That is for the Black. Tack on 8. 9% sales tax and your are at the $600 mark or over.



I saw the shop truck that hauls parts and it still looked pretty good.
