Peterson's 4Wheeler. Any comments.

Read an issue of 4wheeler. They had a but on diesel hot rodding. Seams like this mag is for the Ford crowd too me. That 12 valve should of had more hp for the mods that were done. Why is he running stock injectors? Just not impressed with gasser mags talking about diesel power.

Scotts rig [aka Big Bad Dodge here] is one that Bryan [owner of KC Customs painted also owner of the Stroke. . and known as psychostroker here] so the mag guy was going to do several rigs including Chris Suttons... . some how it only showed the two rigs... go figure

BTW by spring or so Scotts rig will be over 500 HP

Bryan also has 2 CTD in the household

It's a great magazine and I've subscribed for almost 20 years now, but lately I've noticed a lot of technical errors, especially by Wendy Frazier. She's leaving to teach school now, so we don't have to worry about her anymore.



I think they are trying to pick up on some of the performance diesel stuff now.

And ANYtime they do a diesel article who do they mention Banks.



I would LOVE to see them do a article on a Cummins 12 Valve, but I think hell would freeze over first.



Again except for the powerjoke stuff its a great "OFF-ROAD" magazine that I have been a faithful subscriber to for many years and will continue to do so. Just my $. 02

I saw that article and it pi$$ed me off. They made it look like powerstokers can make more power than cummins. They showed probably the highest hp powerstroke in the nation and showed a midly bombed Dodge(engine-wise). The article said that pychostroker was running 13s and might be in the 12s by the time the article was printed. Thisis probably the fastest powerstroke in the nation and it hasn't even hit the 12s yet. That sucks.

You guys are right, it's pro Ford. That could be one of 2 reasons though

1/ The staff is pro Ford

2/ Ford gives them a truck to toy with

I let my subscription go a long time ago, along with Off Road. The TDR and Four Wheeler are all I need!

I occasionally thumb through the mags at the grocery store. I saw a Ford crew cab in one of them today that had at least 20" of lift and 44" tires. It was obvious by the camera angles that they were trying to conceal the missing front driveshaft.

The part that turned me off was that the ford supposedly had more torque. Never seen a ford yet that had more torque than the Cummins. Sounds like a MR Ford story.

There is a definite slant towards Furd in those mags. "Ford Wheeler" isn't nearly as good as it used to be. A guy at work who doesn't know the true story got the idea (from these mags) that the PS can make more power than a Cummins. He asked me about it and I set him straight and told him to come to the next diesel truck pull to see for himself.



There has been a general decline in the quality and content of most of the magazines, and I attribute it to the fact that almost all of them are now owned by one company. Eliminate the competition by buying them up, right? I'm slowly slimming down my subscriptions. The whole thing is a joke, really. They're chock full of ads, very little good info, and they have the nerve to charge a subscription. In my mind, they should at most charge the mailing cost and that's it. Surely they make big money from the ads. I appreciate the TDR mag. At least it's full of info, with minimal ads.

These Mag's are part of the advertising budgets for the manufactures. You see more Fords and Chevys because they sell more vehicles. Example, the Toyota Landcruiser is a better built and a better off road vehicle then anything Ford or GM or DC make and how many of them do you see in the Off road mag's. It's all about selling product and Mag's. Like the saying goes, don't believe anything you read and only half of what you see.

I stopped reading those mags when every other article had to do with either a jeep or Moab rock climbs. Don't get me wrong, the rock climbing thing looks tough, takes alot of skill and good decsion making, but it does nothing for me or my rig. I do like looking at how people seem to think they can get anything and everything through a 5 foot deep mud hole . The one magazine that has the pictures of "Ernie" cracks me up .

Peterson's 4WOR is the only off road mag I still read. Four Wheeler absolutely SUCKS. They did a feature on a friends truck - the entire thing was completely made up and false. It was a first gen Bronco. He worked (and still works) at Jeff's Bronco graveyard. He bought it from a guy that was getting a divorce and needed the cash. Two months later they wanted to do a photo shoot on it and he hadn't done much work on it at the time (put some additional dress up stuff in the engine compartment, etc). It was a CLEEEEEAN Bronco that was VERY well done. We waited a year for the article to hit. In the article they said that he got it as a basket case when he was a kid and fixed it up at his grandpa's house, yada, yada. THEN the worst part was they TOTALLY made up what was done to the engine, etc. NONE of it was true - we knew exactly what was in the engine. That was the last time I picked up that rag.

Four Wheeler started out long ago as Pickup, Van, & 4WD and I had a subscription to it when I was in my teens. The articles were fabulous, especially the writings of Granville King, he never failed to crack me up with his insightful and extremely hilarious accounts of his off-roading adventures... .

Any of you remember the magazine? I loved the ads on the back cover, Formula Tires of Dallas, Texas, featuring their Formula Desert Dog tires...

Most of the off-road magazines today are junk, useless as a source of information... .

Same old multi-page tire and lift kit ads, interspersed with very shallow tech articles that an inmate in an insane asylum could easily follow.....

I agree, Granville King's stuff was great reading. I looked forward to that more than anything else in the magazine. I always wished I could have met the man in person. Remember Superdawg?



Now Ford Wheeler can't seem to get anything right. Even their Top Truck Challenge is turning lousy. 4WOR is probably the best of what's left (not saying a lot). They at least seem to cover real world wheeling rigs.

They have both become rags I wouldn't pee train my dog with. I loved Four Wheeler when I was a teen (although, unlike Briar Hoppa', my mags were in color). Had some pretty good project trucks and some very insightful technical articles. Now all it seems to be is a dog and pony show with crap for technical information.

Had a subscription to 4wheel later on, but by then they had lost their substance also. Oh well. It's the way the tide goes.
