..... ok guys,i'm looking for ideas for mounting a CB antenna on my '08..... i can go with a 102" whip (a good old standby antenna!) or a newer helically wound whip but i just can't figure out where i want to put it... . i hate drilling holes in new vehicles, but,i guess it only hurts once... anyone with pics of their installation would be great... . thanks, tom:)

I used a radio shack mirror clamp type with aluminum 2 piece bracket and clamped it to the front pass side tow hook. It seems like a good place to mount and there are no holes to deal with.

I've got two whips (one for CB one for shortwave) in the front stake pockets. There is a distant pic in my photo galler

I can snap something better if you need it.

I am using a magnet mounted Wilson 5000 w/ 60” whip on my roof. I store it when not in use and mount it when I need it.

I took the painful route, drilled a big hole in the roof, mounted a Wilson 1000 Base loaded with a 60" whip. The MegaCab has a great ground plane, real good omni-direction tx/rx, no interference with the truck's electronics.

DBENTLEY,would you have a close-up pic of your tow hook mounted antenna??... ..... tom..... i have tow hooks and both a fiberglass and stainless 102" whips... ... eliminates tuning!!

Wilson 5000 magnetic, soon to be a permanent roof mount (to get rid of the magnet and wire).

Ok, don't give me too much grief about this, I have had CBs since the 70s. All kinds and nearly every antenna made. Some SBs strong enough to give you cancer probably.

But for this truck I just wanted something simple that worked ok on the highway. I have had this CB and antenna installed for over two years and has worked fine for what I need it for.

CB is an old Radio Shack that was in the garage for probable 10 years and the antenna is a Midland Window mount. Don't blow any drawers off, but communicate fine on the highway when I want to.

The 102" on the rear bumper will be the best perfoming antenna setup, but it will be directional.

A roof mounted antenna would be the second best performer and omni-directional.

A magnet mounted roof antenna would be the third best performer and omni-directional.

I personally drilled the hole and ran the coax down the "B" pillar ... ... . clean install.

I'll shamefully admit that I run the cable through the back door and shut the door on it avoiding the weather striping to avoid smashing it

Here's my setup... #ad

Radio shack 102" whip currently folded over on a fabbed 90 degree bracket bolted to the toolbox. that gets fed by an SGC-231 automatic antenna tuner and driven by a Yaesu FT-857 multiband multimode amateur radio. The VHF/UHF goes to a through-glass antenna on the right side of the truck on the back glass.

I mounted mine to the front/drivers side of the bed. Wasn't big on drilling the two holes, but hey, it's a truck. Slick looking I think, but I'm not sure that it performs very well there. I've got a pretty hot radio and it is crystal clear for the most part, but doesn't reach very far. I JUST got rid of the firestick to try a K40 coil loaded that's a little taller to see if I can get a little more reach. I would ideally put in the middle of the cab roof, but I just can't drill a hole there and the magnet mount I tried kept getting knocked off in drive throughs and other low areas, especially the woods. Having a lifted truck has it's drawbacks. I'll try to get a pic for you in the light tomorrow if I can remember.

I bolted a 14 inch piece of aluminum with a 3" "L" shape at the top to the front of the bed a Im using a Predator 10k antenna you need to keep the antenna coils above the cab line or you will get too much reflect... . Antenna's like a good ground plain
