I was looking at the PIAA 510 lights. They offer a Dodge mounting kit. Where do they mount? Any pictures? Any feedback on the PIAA's for distance lighting. I see some trucks with the lights mounted on top of the front bumper. Do you just drill into the bumper? I have the standard chrome bumper with the plastic on top. Best place to buy these? Thanks in advance.

If you have the factory fog lights then the 510's fit perfectly. If you don't, then you have the bumper inserts with holes too small for the them to fit there. You can order the other grey plastic inserts, but to install them you have to remove the entire bumper.

I've had the 510's in the factory holes, but to be honest I don't think they're all that great. They throw off a good wide sweeping pattern approx. 15' out in front. I drive with them on all the time at night because the factory headlights are so pathetic. They don't cause other oncoming vehicles to flash me, but if they were mounted up higher on the bumper, they'd likely be too bright for oncoming. Also, the PIAA's run hot, and I've had to replace three bulbs over the past four years... . not cheap, and a PITA to change out.

Places like Summit Racing would have best pricing, and even then, they're pricey compared to some other brands.

I was looking at the Peterson lights 529 Nightwatchers also which are a lot cheaper and can be mounted on the bumper top I think.

PIAA 60XT's are rectangular, use an 85 watt bulb vs. the 55 watt bulb of the PIAA 510's, and can be mounted in the bumper with non-foglamp sight shields or foglamp sight shields - without removing the bumper.

The 60 XT's worked well for me until I transplanted Sport headlamps into my non-Sport Ram. Now I hardly use the PIAA's at all. Were I to do it again, I'd go with the Sport headlamps, wired for the "Brite Box" effect, and not install the PIAA's.

Bomb the "foglights"

I had replaced the stock headlight bulbs in my '01 with Silver Stars. Nice but just needed a little something more on high beam to fill in the dead spot right in front of the truck. I wend to dodgeram.org and did the bomb to the foglights so they now stay on with the high beam lights. One of the best bombs on the truck so far. Really helps light up the road just ahead of the truck and they Silver Stars light up a long way down the road. Just a thought.

Dodgeram.org foglight

Here is the link for the foglight mod. Foglight Mod Or go to dodgeram.org, click on tech menu, mods, scroll down to elec. and click on headlamp/foglamp wiring mods. It will show how to do this for all model years
